With the new goverment, and a few new faces supporting rural sports, what do people think the chances of getting the firearm licenses changed to something like is in the uk ie a shotgun certifcate were you can have a few guns on the one cerifacate?

Odds are quite unlikely in the short term. It's a large change and would need a new Firearms Act to get passed; and large changes are fiddly at best, outright dangerous at worst. The only solid, positive changes we've seen over the years have been from successive smaller changes. You bring in a whole Bill and suddenly everyone and his aunt in ICABS are lobbying various TDs to alter that Bill in the Dail, and now the supporting Minister has to fight them off to get your changes through. Given how a lot of our lot spend all their time shouting in public about how he's 'lost it' or whatever, few Ministers have felt that way inclined in the last decade.

There *are* things we could see fixed in the short, medium and long terms, but it's like walking a few miles - it'll take a time and the steps won't seem like much till you turn round a few thousand of them later and see how far you've come.
