weights of dairy calves at birth

    Hi,

    Can anyone please tell me the approximate birth weights of dairy calves for the different dairy breeds please. I know on average its approx 40kg for dairy calf at birth but exact weights for the different breeds and male and female within each breed would be great.

    Holstein male and female
    Jersey male and female
    Friesian male and female
    Norwegian Red male and female

    Also why are female calves lighter than male calves?

    I can only give you Holstein's as i have no other breeds, so far this year 38kg-43kg with one big bull 47kg.

    Females are generally lighter because they have a lighter frame as nature intended, but they don't all follow as a rule.
