I went to see this last night , while storywise not quite at the pixar level , its the nearest a rival has come imo.
Animation is excellent the best iv seen myself , excellent use of the technology .
Story is like a western if you like westerns you will like it , voices are excellent, some of the best voice acting in animation to date imo.
If you are an animation fan then its well worth going to see.
With kids i dont have any but a lot of the jokes would be over the younger ones heads i would imagine , but theres plenty there for them to like anyway.

i think shrek 1 got the pg13 as well but really its only getting that rating for some tongue in cheek jokes and one or two scenes that could disturb younger kids.

I hear stoners love this movie!

Stoner or not this movie is a winner.

The animation is very cool with the attention to detail amazing especially the scene when
Rango walks into the bar and tells his yarn about the "one bullet".
Its definately one for adults as many of the jokes have an adult edge. Depp is great and the supporting cast are excellent.

I went in with the missus not expecting a lot and came out loving it.

There's a lot to love about Rango :pac:

Did anyone spot any allusions to Hunter S. Thompson in it?

i dont know hunter s thompson well, but there was one obvious scene at the start that was pretty clearly meant to be him

I didn't really enjoy it. Most of the animation is awesome, the animals, objects and scenery all some of the best I've seen but the
humans in it look like animated caricatures
. I really like Rango himself and his personality,
but the resolution of his issues wasn't that strong and the other characters were two dimensional (at best). Because of that, I found the story a bit dull
. It also didn't help that its not all that funny.
The voice acting is fine , but I think I've seen too much of the Timmverse to be that impressed by much any more (Johnny Depp was very good though).

went to see this on wednesday and was rightly confused by this till i copped on half way through this film it wasnt a kids film.

    its a western.

a proper western. yes its dressed up in a kids films motifs but scratch beneath the pixar veneer and youve got what could best be described as a spagetti western meets a gerry lewis film.

this owes more to "true grit" than "toy story" and once i got that i really really enjoyed this film. at its heart its really about self definition. what rango was before this film really isnt as important story wise in relation to who he chooses to become by the end of it , so much so that were not even told what his real name is.

and that journey is what the film is about IMO.

I severely doubt kids will like this film much. its OK from their point of view but the vast majority of jokes and nod of the heads/winks visuals are from films i reckon only your dad might know. , leaving only the slapstick stuff for them. im not a mad western fan but i got enough of them to know them when i seen them and i reckon its the adults thatll get more of a kick out of this.

this isnt what i expected but i gotta say i enjoyed it, which was more than i was thought i would as i only went to have something to pass the time till battle LA got released.

    :)

Loved it... Really entertaining and possibly the most enjoyable animated move I've seen.

    Completely loved it too.

I brought the 8yr old (didn't know it was pg13!) and he thought it was amazing also. Agreed that alot of the jokes went way over his head, but one of the best kids movies I've seen since Monsters Inc imo.

I did think alot of the characters were the weirdest looking creatures I'd ever seen though and couldn't explain to himself what half of them were supposed to be (I knew Rango was a lizard but hadn't a clue about most of the rest of them:confused:). Either way, great movie:D

Brought a child (best excuse to see these films) and we both thought it was really good.
