It's released on March 11th in the US, and can't be pre-ordered. It's only available online from March 11th or in Apple stores from 5pm that day (IIRC).

You won't be able to order from the Apple US website and ship it over here.

It'll be released here a fortnight later on March 25th, and presume it's a similar deal here (no pre-orders etc).

IF there are pre-orders you should receive it on the 25th barring anything unforeseen. I don't think there are going to be any pre-orders though.

Starting at €499 with free delivery.

Has anbody spoken with CompuB etc as to what's their plan for release day?

I'm really torn between 499€ on release day or 390€ from the states in early June. I'd love to have it immediately, but 110€ saving for 2 and a half months wait... Am I mad in evening weighing it up?

Where are you going? Remember to add on sales tax.

Bought 1 16GB WiFi iPad 1G for $499 in Miami last year.. it was closer to €430 (if I recall correctly) after currency conversion and sales tax added.

Surely if you're mad it has to be a 24 hour thing? :D

Yeah, €499 will be 16GB WiFi only.

A 32GB WiFi + 3G will set you back €699 as far as I know.

    California - I was skeptical of the savings possible, but with 9.5% sales tax, it comes out at 499 + 47.05 tax = 546.05 x (1 EUR = 1.40279 USD) = 389.264 EUR. That's a real saving...

They might bump the 3G up by 30 euro - I don't remember the old iPad 16GB 3G being 629 USD ever, but the new one is.

No, it was always that price in the US.

As said above, there probably isn't going to be any preorders. The reason being that there's likely to be long shipping times. Keep an eye on the US Applestore. If they don't get preorders then we certainly won't either.

Not at the moment though rumour would have it that pre-orders will begin tomorrow. As usual, this must be taken with a pinch of salt but all European stores were offline for quite a while last night.

We'll have to wait and see, of course, but the fact that the US Applestore says "Order starting March 11" suggests there isn't going to be any pre-orders to me. Apple don't know yet if they have enough units to meet demand. And if demand in the US exceeds expectations, then I'd say there's a good chance we could see our March 25 release date slip a bit.

Anyone who wants an iPad 2 on release day should go to a bricks and mortar shop imo.

Nah, the price is the same. It was a bump of $130 to get the 3G version rather than the wifi only version, so $629 would be right.

Allegedly, an Apple employee said on chat last night that iPad 2 preorders will begin tomorrow on the UK Apple store. I have seen the transcript but we wait and see.....

Can't see that happening. It's released in the US on Friday, and their online store has no preorder facility, and reading it they have no intention of offering one, it says "Order starting March 11". If they can't preorder now for Friday, I can't see how or why the UK store will be taking preorders tomorrow for a release that's over two weeks away. I could be wrong, but have the UK store ever offered such a service when the US store didn't?

I don't see why not: their strategy seems to be avoiding the mayhem of last year. NO pre-orders in their most important market and then *possibly* pre-orders in their other big markets, to gauge just how many they need to ship to Europe? This year they want a white one from day one, and near-simultaneous release in Europe, etc. No delays.

It might just be. Tomorrow will show. All European stores were offline for at least an hour last night.

I have a 3G stick with o2 already and Im hoping to get the o2 Hotshot thingy that lets ya broadcast the 3G as a wifi signal. That would mean I dont need the 3G version of the iPad 2, and I can use my laptop with the Hotshot also.

    Does that sound doable?

O2 Hotshot yoke is just a MiFi, so yes, it can be done. You can already share your connection anyway using the modem stick anyway.

If you get HotShot/MiFi, you would be well advised to get extra batteries on ebay for intensive use, away from home.

Its way off topic, but any chance of a quick PM as to how I could do that? Thanks!

Anyone know if the wifi only model of the iPad 2 will have GPS. Or will it only be on the 3G version.

Well, I don't know the procedure on those sorts of machines -someone else might join in -but you will need to go into Control Panel and tick 'share this connection' or similar. On OSX, it's simplicity itself.

As I am currently living in San Francisco I can't wait for Friday. Will definitely be getting mine on Friday. I want to get the 64gb AT&T 3G model.

Just have to decide which color and which cover to get.

I already have the 64gb first gen ipad, and use it all the time, but I bought it before the 3g model was available. Normally the wifi only model is sufficient, but maybe two or three times per month the 3g would come in handy.

Me too, MacBook pro,iPod,iPhone 4,apple tv, iPad and just in the process of replacing my Pc with a 27"iMac kind of an addiction but I just can't help liking stuff that just works with no drama.

Hopefully I'll be able to see one of the ipad2s in compu b when their launched. Probably won't bother upgrading til no 3

I used an iPad for the first time a few weeks ago. To be honest, I was sort of reluctant to try one out as I already have an iPod Touch and iPhone and I really like the touch screen capabilities of both. So I was worried that if I tried the iPad, I'd end up liking it a lot and not being able to resist buying one.

Having tried it though, I have to admit that while it's nice, I still don't see the need for having one, for me at least. I'm quite the gadget junkie but even after using the iPad, I felt like I'd have no use for it and even more so, I didn't feel compelled to go buy one.

The new features of the iPad2 seem ok but nothing that would make me want to go spend money on the device.

I'm not sure of the prices, but the iPad/iPad2 seems to be selling for around the €500-€600 mark and if I had to spend that amount of tech stuff, I'd rather use it to buy two Solid State Drives for my computers to replace their hard disks. :)

There was no need to queue to get the last one. I just walked into a shop at around 12 noon and picked one up without issue. I think there is much less likelihood of having queues this time.

Shipping dates for iPads in the US are 18-25 of March.

At this rate Id be better off waiting for the Irish release.

Long shipping delays as I expected. This is why there was no pre-orders. Apple don't have enough units to meet demand. I wouldn't be surprised if the international release gets pushed back again.

yeah, i was hoping this would not happen. Either their logistics and procurement again did a poor job or just Apple trying to drum up some excitement after lukewarm reception of Verizon Iphone 4.
