Gym in Drumcondra

    Hey all,

Planning a move to Drumcondra in a couple of months when I finish college and am having trouble finding a gym in the area other than the one in DCU (would rather not join a students' gym - my experience in Trinity is of having to queue for everything most of the time, the few times I did go). The gym in the Regency doesn't look good at all.

Have big plans to lose a bit of weight and get properly in shape, so ideally am looking for a gym that's chilled out and affordable.

I'll be working really long hours so ideally a gym in Drumcondra, as would rather not spend the evening travelling to and then from the gym.

    Thanks a million!

What do you want from the gym?

You're very tight on options out here, I went with the Regency myself out of handiness and the fact it has a pool that's quiet enough :)

    F*ck all around tbh...

Hercules in town, Ben Dunne's up at Northwood, Regency if you like small places you can't do much in... Ballymun CC gym's a short bus ride away. Options around are pretty p!ss poor tbh.

DCU is porbaby the best option.
    Or Informed Performance in Glasnevin/finglas

Thanks a million for the replies,

Yeah those were the options I found googling but assumed that for such a big residential area it'd be better serviced by gyms!

I looked into the Regency but... 10 treadmills, 2 rowing machines... fancy somewhere a bit bigger and a bit more dedicated. Northwood looks like the best option but a bit of a trek - will be working in the Mater (hopefully) and 10-12 hour days so fancied putting in an hour and still being home at a reasonable hour.

Am thinking about OneEscape in Smithfield either - looks great, if a bit pretentious but by all accounts very expensive.

Hercules isn't really what I'm after either going by the website.

Maybe Ben Dunne's on Jervis Street either...

Sorry for the rambling: what I'm after is a big, anonymous gym where I can go about my routine (taking advice where I ask for it) without being hassled and without being bankrupted. Northwood looks closest to that, just a pity it's so far out from town.

    Cheers lads

You've summed up Ben Dunnes gyms right there, this should be their new marketing slogan...

Northwood is great imo but if you're working at the matter I'd go for ben dunne's jervis.

They knocked the back wall out and added two power racks(with chin station),one cable station, dbells from 42.5-45-47.5-50kg,seated calf raise.
The place seems alot bigger and brighter a good difference from what it was before.
Its dead handy for poping up there in the evenings after work just gona see how i will haggle next years membership with them,,

I get there a little later in the evenings about 8-8.30,never been there for the rush hour.Maybe give them a call and see if you can get some free passes.Or if you have any friends that train there you can go free with them on the first or the last Friday of the month cant remember which it is.

I'm a member but haven't been in a few months (always try to avoid during the January rush.. & I've been sick).
I hate going in the evenings, around 6.30-8 is always very busy. Weekends are generally very quiet though.

Glad to hear its been extended, might pop back this weekend :D!
