close, the ones that i have you get strapped into them and rolled down an incline and i also have ones that you three people can get into with a few litres of water and go down a hill.

    Great Craic

Was always mad for a go of this but never seen it in Ireland. I think it'd get a good crowd in Waterford. There are a fair few stag weekends and that in Waterford, as well as the locals. Cost is always a factor of course.

There was some festival on in Kerry last year that had zorbing - I was mad to go, but wasn't able to make it - I'd definitely have a go, it sounds like a great work/college activity as well. Just go handy on the prices - I know insurance costs would probably be a big overhead, but at the same time it's not going to get much use if people can't afford it.
Best of luck with it :)

    Bunkers hill anyone >_>

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭scico rocks

    I'd give it a go......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 217 ✭✭spadesaspade

Thanks for all the replys, yeah price is one thing we will have to get right from the start. It will depend on the size of the hill we can get, the smaller the hill the lower the price but whatever the lenght we will make sure everyone who turns up will have a good laugh and walk away buzzing!!!
    keep the opinions coming please

How exactly does it work? I assume you don't roll around and around inside it?

Are those the things that can go on water too?

Would you have a rough idea for price so we can tell ya what we think?

    TBH I think it's a great idea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 217 ✭✭spadesaspade

two people get into it and get strapped in, waist, legs and arms. the people will be facing each other while strapped in . The ball will then free roll down the hill with the people rotating over and over in it. I think he price will be about €10 a go per person with different prices if they want, say one go in the water one and one go in the strapin one. 3 gos maybe €26 per person etc. These balls are not the ones that go on water. they are three meters high and very impressive to look at:eek:

I think €10 is a good price point with a 3 for €27, 6 for €50 kinda thing would get people in there.

I think the make or break for ya will be location. People walking by and seeing it is what you want.

Personally, If you set up tomorrow I'd be there Saturday to give it a go :)

Jurys hill be some laugh. I'd say you would make some money if you get. Good location obviously. We can be testers lol

Yeah location is key. Unfortunately if we do it in waterford it will be out of town, prob between waterford and tramore, say butlerstown around that region

Deffo want to do this :-)

Now that would be class alright.. you wouldnt need a large hill to be honest, something with say a 8 to 10 degree slope and a long run off at the end would be perfect.. anything more than that and it could get messy.. :P

Have you been in contact with the crowd in Laois/Kilkenny that were doing it. Its a few years ago now but they might be able to help with initial setup etc. I think the site is zorb.ie

The biggest prob ya might have apart from location is the public liability insurance. Hopefully it wont be too expensive.

Best of luck with it, and if you get it up and going I'll be there for a spin.

There will be a height restriction for the strap in balls as the person will have to be fitted into the harness correctly. With the Aqua balls there will be no age restriction.

Whats Kilmeading like guys? maybe it would work around that part?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 126 ✭✭blobbyblob

Theres a huge hill out in butlerstown, Just after the orchardstown cross on the cork rd take the next left, albeit, farmland.

Worth a look. any of the farmers around there will tell you who owns the field.

Would there be anything near Tramore racecourse? You'd sure make a mint in the summer.

Tramore, especially for the summer would be ideal!

I'd go with Kilmeaden over Faithlegg though as you'd also pick up plenty of people from west county waterford/south tipp/south KK quite easily at that location, whereas Faithlegg is that teeny tiny bit out of the way.

Looks like fun! Best of luck with getting it all set up :)

West town out past Tramore would be another spot, lots of farmland out that way... I dont think you'll have a problem finding somewhere thats good, I think the problem will be with the landowner leaving you onto the land..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 217 ✭✭spadesaspade

Yeah, farmers seem to be afraid of the new. Your opinions on price would be great guys

This would be cool to do. I know several people who would love to give this a go. Hope you can set it up here. :)

No its not just a though, i have all the zorb and aqua balls already so land is the final issue, although it seems to be a big issue in waterford, land owners (farmers) seem to be afraid to try something new or those who think about it seem to be still living in the boom times and want silly money for renting a bit of land, greedy f*ckers. Goint to start looking further afield soon enough unfortunately if i cant get anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 957 ✭✭✭comeraghs

with your condescending attitude towards farmers I'm not surprised that they won't allow you use their land ..... & not to mention the insurance implications for the farmers if someone were to get injured.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 217 ✭✭spadesaspade

'with your condescending attitude towards farmers I'm not surprised that they won't allow you use their land'

One guy offered me the use of his field for €5000 for four acres for 5 months and another wanted 40% of the profits i make while on his land. I dont have a condecending attitude towards farmers at all. One of my closest friend is a farmer.

My public liability insurance covers anything that happens on the land i would be renting.

Any wiggle room with the 40% fella at all?

I'd say he'd want to wiggle away all that 40% and a good chunk of that €5,000 to make it worth while. The zorbing lad is hardly going to be making tens of thousands of Euro with this type of niche business.

It might be a good idea to find land owned by the Council to do the zorbing. They would be better to deal with and would not be looking for a ridiculous cut.

Thanks, i will check that place out. Might have somewhere in butlerstown so hopefully that wont be to far out for people

I think Butlerstown is as good as you're going to get. It's very close to the city in fairness and has good transport links now with the bypass etc. I'm assuming you'd like to be up and running for the summer?
