My brother is thinking of changing his car, we went and had a look at a few this morning, the Mondeo caught his eye, its a 2009 one owner car with 50,400kms on the clock, i was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Mondeo? Are they reliable? What are they like to live with and is there anything in particular we should look out for or any known problems with this car ? Any advice would be most appreciated, thanks inadvance.

Nice car, ny boss has one that I've driven a bit. Very Sharp brakes that take a bit of getting used to. He paid 27k for his brand new. It's a nice car to drive and despite being the economy model, doesn't feel overpowered. Only issue he had was the bonnet cable breaking. It tends to go through tyres regularly but that could be down to driving style.

I am driving the Zetec version of this car, it is basically the same apart from some trim and mine is higher on the CO2. Their is a turbo lag, which is quite bad and tyres tend to last around 25 - 30k klms. Other than that they are a great car to drive. Plenty of room and a large boot.

    What's the fuel consumption like?

Sorry, only seen question now. I am getting between 45 - 50mpg, depending on what type of driving I do.

Hi Guys, I've just purchased a 2010 version of the Econetic and find it very smooth. Am really happy with it except it feels sluggish when I start it in the mornings of when its in 1st gear. The first couple of times I drove it, I stalled as didn't give enough gas. This could be just me getting used to a diesel or maybe its down to the eco but I feel its the car. Anyone else come across this? As while its still in warranty I'd get it checked out if there was a problem.

Just thinking out loud, maybe fuel injectors are on the way out and taking time for pressure to build up???
Does it start quickly from cold?
What engine is in it? 1.8 or 2.0.

They do take a few seconds after start up from cold to get going properly, but then it should be fine. I find it very hard to stall mine, it'll struggle on even if there isn't enough gas.
Edit: Only noticed this was an old thread now.

Thanks guys. Its a 1.8L zetec. It starts fine from cold but when I go to pull out of the drive I need to be really aware as it does struggle. Also if I drop down to 2nd gear (e.g. driving around a car park) it struggles a bit. It is definitely better the more the day goes on though.
    Could it be the injectors?

I'm having the exact same problem with my old 01 2.0td Mondeo. It's been like this since I bought it. A set of injectors improved it a small bit but issue is still there.

Perhaps related, but very strangely I find that it has more power when the tank is only 1/4 full. When I refuel the performance drops off.
I'm guessing that it might be a partial blockage in the fuel return line.

    new fuel filter might help
