    NOTICE:
The above is being allowed on the grounds that it is not abused in terms of advertising. The topic is Solar Storage using concrete raft. If this is deviated from we will delete and ban.

We will review this on an ongoing basis.

    Tom - Thanks for this

    All -
The reason I started this thread is to get people talking about
    1. the physics
    2. economics
    3. and practicality of such an approch.
I am about to build a house and a decsion on this has to happen prior to anybody turning up on site - hence am interested in peoples thoughts.

PM me if you feel that your comment might not be in line with Tom's rulling on what can and cannot be disucssed.

    Francis

There's an article in the last edition of one of those magazines aimed at self builders in Ireland where the guys that did this in the west discuss their findings.

In a nutshell, the better your build (insulation level etc), the less viable this becomes. In their passiv spec home they reckoned the pay back period was 55 years.

    Nice idea, impractically expensive.

I misread this. The arcticle I made reference to involved the use of a large tank of water under the garden as the interseasonal store. It wasn't earth based storage.
