I am. I'm a member of Seandun in Cork. Rarely get to do much these days though because I live in Dublin. Always go to the Rally, Blue Jeans, Mr Personality etc when I can though. Love Macra! :)

I know, was thinking of joining the North County Dublin one alright but anytime I've asked on their Facebook I've been ignored so that's kind of put me off them to be honest. Might look in to joining Dublin City maybe. Bit out of the way for me though.

tismesoitis pretty much summed it up. I've gotten so much out of it, seen a bit of the world and made friends for life

Yeah some are definitely like that....I find the women in some clubs are bad that way unfortunately. Most clubs are great though, the one I joined was brilliant, they couldn't have been more welcoming. That's their tough if they're like that though, new members is what keeps macra clubs going.

Thats is very much a trait of Irish people in general - this idea of the "Friendly Irish" is very much a Bord Failte gimmick. The Irish think their being friendly by plamas'ing strangers:rolleyes:

To be fair though most Macra clubs are great to new people, it's just the odd few that are like that.

I'm in Macra the last 3 years but I'm only active for the last year. Deeply regret wasting the first few years.

Few queries on Macra (thinkin of joinin):
    1. How often they meet up?
    2. What do they do? As in is it a case of meeting up in a hall one week and organising a pub session for the next weekend? Or are there many pub sessions?
    3. Does it cost anything?
    4. Is there loads of clubs in each county? I am in Limerick and i think there is one in Croom anyway. Probably the nearest one too me. Anyone know much about this group? PM me instead if you like.

    Cheers.

Ah! This old chestnut. "What is macra?"

    1) It depends on the club really and the time of year.
most clubs would have a meeting every 2 weeks or so but you could have compititions or practices or social events on other nights. If you wanted you coupld have every night of the week taken up with macra.
But you can do as much or as little as you want. But like anything, the more you put in the more you get out of it

    2) Basiclly its a rural youth group for 17-35 year olds. There are 6 key areas: travel, sport, agriculture, performing arts, public speaking and community involvement
    Thats the official speil anyways.
the way i see it though its A) a social outlet B) The counties largest dating service and C) a way to learn new skills like public speaking

    3) 20 yo yos in your first year

4)some counties are stronger than others. Cork, Tipp and Meath are probaly the strongest but Limerick has come on a lot in the past 3/4 years not sure how many clubs are there at the moment.

Feel free to PM me if you need more info
