    Hi all,

Just looking for people's option on what shopping cart software to us.

I might be setting up a site for my friend and i need something that looks really nice and it easy to us. Once i install and setup the shop he will be adding new items and stock etc.

He doesn't mind paying for it once it's not mega money but free softwares are always nice as well.

    Cheers.

Zen Cart and osCommerce seem to be most popular free shopping carts. I haven't used osCommerce so can't really comment on it but I used Zen-cart before. It was little bit complicated to set up first but once you get your head around it it is quite easy to work with.

    I've started using OpenCart.
It had the best rating on Open Source eCommerce.

I like it a lot though the MVC architecture takes a bit of getting used to if you was to add features.

    If you have a VPS.

OP, I would suggest Open Cart, easy to skin, free templates and easy to use.

I worked with OSCommerce and Magento in the past. The default installation of OSCommerce looked absolutely horrible and I found that getting some addons to work took a lot of effort but the forums were pretty handy for getting answers.

Magento looked great out of the box but was ridiculously slow even when installed on a local server. It is also touted as open-source but my experience was that the code was sufficiently complicated to raise the barrier for entry high enough that nobody bar the most dedicated would be able to do much with it. The support forums were also a joke, page after page of questions going unanswered or with answers which basically amounted to "buy a support package and we'll tell you the answer".

That was my experience around 2007-2008, hopefully things have changed in the meantime.

Many people use magento and zencart. I cant blame them, this software are simply the best. Check this web site for shopping cart software for more information about this software and a lot more others.
