Sorry what? What kind of job is she going for? Plenty (99% of) jobs don't require a police check. Even of the ones that do several would only disqualify you if the offence you were convicted of was a violent offence. I'm calling shenanigans on this whole operation. Shenanigans I say!

She should try lying. It's all the rage at the minute. Most C.Vs now come with free exaggeration, liberal amounts of waffle and a sprinkle of mis-information.

Holding the bags of pic a mix up off the scale was about as close as I came....parents used to always send me the shop to get the paper though and my mate would rob it and we would split the money.

This should be a lesson to her.

Next time she should take billions off the Irish people and pump it into failing banks.

She'll get away with it for sure.

I've heard there are 450,000 others in the same boat - I finally understand why so many are unemployed(penneys must have been robbed blind)

Did the job your mother apply for involve dealing with cash or valuables by any chance?

Did she apply for the job in Penneys?

I stole chewing gum from Quinnsworth when I was about 6 coz my mam wouldn't buy them for me - didn't get caught so that's where she went wrong! Sure that's the only reason she couldn't get a job?

Not surprising, considering she would be working with old vulnerable people!

Any job that requires security clearance is going to lead to a situation where they will want to know everything about your life. They may even want to know when you last took a **** etc. Your mum could probably get 99% of regular jobs out there.

Self employment is also an option. **** the corporations.

was she told it was because of her past ? if not, there was more than likely just someone else they wanted to hire. in the past employers were more likely to ignore petty theft charges from years ago (unless dealing with money of that) but at the moment there are so many people - often hundreds applying for the same 1-2 vacancies and the employer has the choice of the crop.

Legally, they don't have to justify their reasons for not hiring you. If they did, slander cases could result. They could have just lied about the reason.

as they often do - if you have a disability it can be the same. they wont say it but youll know it cos youve experienced it so many times.

perhaps shes been applying for the wrong kind of job - by that i mean, if shes having no luck in one industry maybe try another and so on until you find one.

finding a job - easier said than done though

Problem is his scumbag mother stole from a legitimate business, and now as a punishment she gets to live off the taxpayer for the rest of her life because she's too unsuitable to have regular employment. Lesser of two evils I suppose - giving his mother some support at the expense of the state instead of her having going around robbing shops. Hopefully the OP has a bit more decency, and will contribute to society instead of leeching off it.

And even now to take €92 worth of stuff would be impossible. Imagine back in 2001 when a t-shirt was £1 when it wasn't on sale!!

Wow, £92! Spent a similar amount in Penneys once and my arms were aching carrying the giant bag...realistically, how is it possible to not get caught when it's that amount of stuff?

On a more serious note, I hope she gets a job..change industry?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 24,878 ✭✭✭✭arybvtcw0eolkf

When I was growing up in the 70's and early 80's I knew people who robbed from shops to feed and cloth their children.

And I know a lot of addicts feed their addiction this way, but its a crime which I try to look at with a little compasion and wonder the circumstances of the person shop lifting.

One lady I knew from the flats was married to an employed drunk, there wasn't a pot to piss in between them all and it was sink or swim.

Anyway, I can be a soft fvcker to some things - this is one of 'em.
