Wheel Lock for Ford Focus

    Hi,
Can someone please help me here...
I recently bought a 2007 Ford Focus. I had to update one of the tyres and brought it the local tyre shop. The fella there told me that I am missing a wheel lock - apparently a nut of some type - and without this I cannot change a wheel (the car has alloys). He advised me to contact Ford and it would only cost around a tenner.
The only problem is that Ford Ireland don't seem to answer the phone and when I contacted my local Ford dealer they said I would need to bring the car into them - which I think is unnecessary.
    Anyone know what to do?
    Thanks,
    NOWE

Herself threw hers out not long after buying her car. What's this piece of metal for? Nevermind the fact that I showed it to her the day she picked up the car and said "This is for your lock nuts. It's important. Look after it"

Some tyre places will bate the lock nuts off if you give them the go ahead. Then you should be able to buy another set for 30 euro or so.

Failing that you need a main dealer to open them with a matching key (or a master?). They probably won't give you a new key though, they'll flog you a new set of nuts and key, and maybe charge you more.

check if there is a reference number etc in the manual. i lost the lock nut on my volvo years ago but there was a ref number so i could order a new 1. only cost €20 or something.

If you do that you could find your car on blocks someday, and wheel less.

    Thanks for the replies.

garhjw - how did you order this? Through a Volvo dealer or was it directly from Volvo Ireland.

    Thanks.

From memory of my old Focus there should be a lock nut key seriel number on a card or piece of paper in the owner's manual. Also check the tyre well where the jack is, sometimes people through the key in there after using it.

If it is missing then you will need to go to a Ford dealer and they will order a new lock nut key for you. They are not that expensive and they are designed to stop or at least slow down thieves from stealling your nice alloy wheels. A new lock nut key is alot cheaper than a new set of wheels.

Volvos are different, afaik there is a website you need to go onto and order a replacement lock nut key. From memory Volvo dealers don't stock or cannot order replacement lock nut keys for you.

In these times scum will steal anything that can make them quick easy money. There is a nice market for second hand alloy wheels and tyres.

northofwestend any luck locating a wheel lock for your focus? I have the same problem with my volvo, badly need to change two tyres but wheel lock is nowhere to be found. Have to drive an hour to nearest volvo dealer at weekend, hopeing they can sort me out with a master lock for now. But obviously will need to buy my own. Just not sure where to go about getting one? This happened to anyone else?

    Hi All,
Unfortunately I haven't solved this one yet. I stupidly bought a new 'lock nut' through Amazon without fully understanding what I was buying. Needless to say was a lock nut with four new nuts, and won't fit my car. Ford Ireland don;t seem to answer the phone and haven't replied to any of the voicemails I've left them.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks.

Go to a main ford dealer.

I lost the lock nut adapter for my Golf. I had the bring the car to the dealer. The dealer had a box of at least 10 different types of lock nut and tried them one by one until he found the right one. The replacement lock nut adapter cost about €15.

Did you try the glove box that is where it is normally kept in the fords ?

Nope not in glove box, it is a second hand car so god knows what previous owner did with it. I'll go to a Ford dealer and see what they can do for me.

    Thanks.

    Ta da!!! :D:D

The dealer should have the full set of lock nut adaptors (call ahead to make sure so you're not wasting a journey) and they'll get the lock nuts off. You can then use your new set to secure your wheels.
