Is there a deadline or set date after Polling Day for election posters to be taken down?

I was sick of looking at them for the duration of GE11, now they're a total eyesore.

Mind you I love looking at the FFers who lost their seats, and I'd say I'm not alone in that.

I saw Catherine Connolly's being taken down in Galway today. I've noticed them dissappearing gradually, but is that students taking them?*

*I hear students are the scum of the earth these days

posters must be taken down within a month of polling day or the candidate will incur a fine. Thats what I've being told by an agent for a candidate. No official source

It's enforced by local councils. As I recall, one Shinner took a fine for having posters lying up for months in Sandyford a while back.
Dunno if there is a national or local stipulation on the timeframe, though. But I'd expect it's national.

They have to be down within a week and that week expired last night @ midnight.

However, the councils coontain lots of elected officials who are wannabe TDs. I can't see them being to proactive in terms of punishing their masters!

Is the huge Simon Coveney billboard on the South Link Road near the Sarsfield Rd Roundabout still up?I drove on that road yesterday and it was there then.

I would presume Mr. Covney's billboard is on private property and not subject to the same rules.

@county man - thanks. I was just repeating what Ivan said this am on the radio.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I actually like posters. Not in any aesthetic way but they are a very visible reminder that we are in the middle of an election.
Obviously nobody (I hope) basis their actual vote on the quality or quantity of posters but they do add to the overall sense of occasion. Anything that draws our attention to the election and encourages us to think and evaluate the options is a good thing. If someone decides not to vote at least they cannot say that they didn't know it was on.
Voting is one of the most important things we do in our lives. I'm sure the people of Libya wished they had the luxury of giving out about posters.

A certain Independent still has a poster up in Kilcock. Will she get a fine, doubt it. should though as it would be only fair. Labour poster just off the roundabout for Kilcock, was knocked down suppose that will also stay there. Again fine them if the posters are still present.
