Hey, I'm trying to insure a Ford Granada Hearse, & so far now 3 insurance companies have told me it's not an irish reg. Reg starts with UZG, I'm no good with old-style numberplates so can anyone help? Says on the tax book that first registration was April 1984, so is that the year? The 3rd fella I rang today told me that it's classed as an import because of the reg. How?!?! Am I missing something, or are these insurance people complete and utter idiots?!!!

or are these insurance people complete and utter idiots?!!!

Complete and utter idiots, so they are.

I had to get my motor tax application signed by off through being off road between registering and using. Went to the Garda station and the idiot behind the counter was telling me it wasn't an Irish reg (ZV).

    UZG - (AZG 1 to YZG 999 (Jun 1983 - May 1984) - Dublin Wikipedia)

So April 1984 fits that sequence okay.

UZG 1 - 999 was issued in March 1984 in Dublin. Yes they sure are idiots to be making such statements.

The IVVCC website used to have a spreadsheet with all pre 1987 reg details for all Ireland going back to the start, worth checking out.

    Regards,
    Triumphs.

    As does Wikipedia:

Thanks a million for all your replies - I was slightly losing the will to live by the time the third company claimed that it was an import. Am going to e-mail those links to the one particular FOOL who sent me not one, but two messages stating that it's not an Irish registration and therefore I will have "great difficulty" getting an online quote, and should "just ring around" all the main places. I wouldn't mind, but this particular crowd have an ad going at the minute that claims they make things easier for people. I think I may just get extra phone credit tomorrow and make some calls, thought online would be easier.

    Cheers for the info!
