Hey all. Just wondering if anyone (or their parents) have had any experience with parental support groups like LOOK or anything similar. And did it help at all?

Looking for a group or meeting in midlands (fat chance I know). Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Have you contacted LOOK - I think they may have members outside of Dublin

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Is there many on the lgbt forum, even lurkers that may trawl these threads from around the Midlands region? Because if there is enough interest in a trans support group and a support group for parents and family of lgbt people, I might just be able to swing help support to have one set up in the midlands.

I'm just expressing the possibly first without having to go down the 'build it and they will come' route just yet.

If you are talking about trans parent support groups specifically, I believe TENI are close to setting them up.

If you are in need of support right now, PM me and I can give you the contact details of a counsellor in the Limerick area who is aware of LGBT issues from a parents perspective.

Thanks guys for the replies. Not actually in the Midlands myself, but the inquiry was for someone I know that is having "issues" at the moment.

    Idea has been vetoed anyway:(

I'm originally from the midlands, I would say that such a service is sorely needed. Especially something for younger people.
