    Free ya?

Why dont you do your job as a promoter and get people to the venue and let bands do their job and play music......

Yes its free to enter - bands do not pay an entry fee

we do require each band to bring 10 fans on the night to enter the competition

if bands dont bring 10 fans they still get to play but are'nt able to win the prize,

Fans, do have to pay €6 in, but in fairness, I play in band and we always ask our mates to come all our gigs, and they pay in just to see us play even when its not a competition,

so I would think most bands do the same, especially when there have a chance of winning a decent prize

So BumbleBee this is the way we run our nights, all the bands that have played so far are all really happy with how the night goes, they come along, play to big crowd and have a chance of winning a prize at the end of the night, if you dont like the way its run, thats fine with us, you dont have to play, you can easily organise your own gigs, rent out the same venues and organise the crowds to come see you play, no one is stopping you!!

I certainly can, and i am also free to comment on how you run things.

Its not free to enter if you have to ask mates to see you play. In fairness if your unsigned its not like you'll have a strong fanbase, if you live outside Dublin it would be very hard to get people to come.

Fair enough its not pay to play, however its not free to enter if you need 10 people to come along. Its a step down from selling tickets IMO.

Dont be misleading in your language. Its NOT Free no matter how you dress it up IMO

Feel bad for ya daycent. Everytime you put this up somebody always has a go.

Its free to enter, if bands decide not to bring anybody you will get to play but wont be in the competition. However if everybody does this there will be no money made and the night will be cancelled.

thanks ya there always the same lads having a go, but sure ya ll have that, we know we put on a good night and all the bands who play are happy, we would never cancel the night if no one turned up but we obviously could nt keep running it if this kept happening, but as it is, the night is running very well and everyone who attends it is 2.

Played there, and it was a great night. On the night there was a band called Time is a thief, down from Cork, and they mentioned how hard it is to get gigs. Two weeks before a band from Las Vegas, called the Objex was on a tour and their gig in Fibbers got canceled on the day, and These guys gave them a slot. I've done enough touring over the years to know how desperate situation it is when your gig gets dropped on last minute, and how great it is when some one offers replacement on the day! It's night like these that keeps the underground rock alive in Dublin.

Well its competition so every band has to have the same amount of time each to be fair, but we wont loose the head if ye'd play 25mins, but we could'nt have every band doing it!!

Guys what are the requirements here for music played? Is it all originals? Or one original needed? Or does it matter?

thats a bit dissapointing that this kind of gig isn't only for bands with original material, cause you could easily end up with wedding bands that aren't signed but have been gigging for years & years or cover bands, anyway just my 2 cents...

Well this competition is really for original material but if people want to play covers they can thats no bother, but we always give the prize to the most original band on night so your better off playing as much original material as possible!!
