Bloody ATM machines! My local one only gives out €50s as it runs out of €20s in a couple of hours once it's filled. Time to bring them back to the days of €5s and €10s.

    Pissed off.

Coin Change, the op doesnt have €50 in his account so op wants ATMs to give out change and why shouldnt AMTs give change? If coco cola machines can why cant ATMs? Maybe ATM could sell coco cola and chocolate too :)

Wait, you're complaining that it runs out of 20's too quickly? And to fix that, you want it to stock 5's and 10's???

Stocking an atm with 5's and 10's in this country is asking for the atm to only be available about 2 hours a day.

Just use your damn laser card!

ATM's run out of €20's as the machines don't have enough. Nowt to do with credit cards.

My grief with ATM's (EasyCash ones and AIB ones in shops) is the fact that it knows there are no €50's or €20's in them, but still gives you the option to pick it, wait for it to whir and click, and then tells you to pick a different amount, and you have to start all over again!

Or the one I went to the other day, had bloody stupid preselect amounts, and no option to enter other amounts. It had €30, €60, €70, €90, €110, €130, €140, and €150. Damn thing was out of €20's.

In trying to figure out how much you got out in the end, I believe I've solved P=NP.

Given the OP's propensity for redundant initials, I guess CC means 'cash cash'.

I remember a few months ago i had just E20 in my account and i needed it.

I had to go to 6 ATM's (yes 6!) before I found one that had anything smaller than 50's in it.

The banks should realise that a lot of people (like myself) don't have much in the account, or can't afford to take out that much.

And do what, exactly? Tell people not to take out €20 if they have more than €50 in their accounts?

The only people who need reminding of anything in relation to ATM's are the people/politicians of this country, not the banks.

When it comes to our reliance on antiquated payment methods, Ireland is still well and truly stuck in the past:

    ATM transactions per capita
    ATM cash per capita
    Cheques per capita

I carry out the majority of my finances via Credit Card, Debit Card (with cashback), DD and E-Payments. I use an ATM about twice a month and haven't had a cheque book in almost 8 years.

    that's not what i'm saying.

what i mean is the ATMs should be better stocked up with other denominations

Any suggestions as to how they could be "better stocked"?

keep a higher float of 20's and 10's as they seem to be the notes to go fastest.

They could also be filled more often.

Also you know those little bank machines in shops with the signs that say the staff has no access to?

Who do you think fills it...

    general staff don't afaik.

it's usually the likes of the owner or manager who may have any access to it.

So you would be happy to be able to take out 10 euro notes, but stand reasonable chance that any ATM you visit will be out of order (because it has run out of money). An ATM can only hold a certain number of notes. the higher the denominations the longer the ATM can last without needing to be re-stocked. If you were to put in lower denominations, the ATM's would run out of cash several hours after having been filled.

Which is bloody expensive and dangerous.

I see your point, but it is so frustrating when you have to go to several different ATMs before you can take out YOUR money.

and before it's said, not everywhere accepts Laser,
