ACCA vs CPA. graduate contact decision

    Hi everyone,

new to the site and have seen alot of interesting discussions already as regards the accounting bodies. I am currently in my final year of my accounting degree and have been offered a training contract with a medium sized practice on completion of my degree.

They wish for me to pursue the CPA exams but I am led to believe I can persuade them to allow me sit ACCA exams if I choose so.

I have read about the respective bodies and have to say ACCA sounds like the better option but my knowledge of the respective bodies is admitedly relatively poor.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could maybe offer a more direct comparison between the bodies and if anyone would recommend CPA above ACCA as any opinions i've asked of people so far seem to rank them as equals or ACCA as better but none of the opposite opinion.

I'd greatly appreciate any help soon as I must sign the contract very soon if i accept the offer.

    Thanks guys.

Mmm - pity someone didn't come up with a sticky to compare the institutes. Oh wait! :p

RE ACCA Vs CPA - You've probably read loads already, and not sure if there's much benefit having another one of these threads.

It's extremely difficult to get a decent comparison as there are very few people out there that have done both CPA & ACCA.

All you will get is the snobs who claim how much better one is over the other. Either one is an excellent qualification.

Thanks guys, I've chosen CPA anyway.

As regards exams and study could anyone give an estimate or breakdown of the costs as im paying for all my own exams. I've been told an estimate of 5k all in?
I've got alot of exemptions from my degree so only have one exam to sit for P1 and the four at P2.
