Clamping, Is it right?

I'm no expert but if I advertised something wrongly I'd expect to be held responsible.
For example in my local town there is parking provided in public spaces for residents who pay for residential parking discs. A hotel in the centre of town has setup a new carpark (which looks like a council car park) and has a big sign saying 'Public Parking pay and dispaly'. It does not look like it is connected to the hotel. I parked there thinking I was covered by my local residents parking disc. I got a clamp, €125. I'm confused because surely they should have said 'private parking pay and display'.

Can't you argue it and get your money back?

I know what I would have done with it but cant really say it here.

Worth arguing your case sounds like their advertising sign is intentionally confusing although would have to see maybe a pic and exactly what your parking permit says in reference to exactly where you can park?

Also if there was even a scratch on any part of your car after they put it on/took it off I would be advising them your doing them for criminal damage.

Staff at reception were very understanding, but i need to deal with general manager, general manager wont return my calls. Parking is in Dun Laoghaire and covers all of dun laoghaire (except pier)

Residents parking permits allow you to park on the public road in the white boxes where visitors have to 'pay and display' because you as a local deserve to be allowed to park on the road on which you live, no arguments there and good luck to you.

However, when it comes to what you call 'a council car park', why should even a local resident get free parking and surely anyone can tell the difference between a public road and a car park?

Do you have a link for the Gazzette article gabhain7?

Couldn't find anything in the March 2010 edition.

    Thanks!

It said 'Pay and Display' not 'Pay and Display and Residents Permits'. Surely Residents Permits are only valid for the street where you live.

Where it said "Public Car Park", did it have the council's name or logo?
