I have heard of people getting good deals from priceline.

I went onto the site www.priceline.com but it seems that I can only enter start location as being from somewhere inside the US.

Has anybody used this from Ireland and what is the review?

I have used Priceline just once. Priceline.co.uk (name your own price) is the site you need. I got a 4* hotel in Amsterdam for just under €60 a night. Personally, I wouldn't have any hesitation using it again, but most of my friends want to know the name of the hotel in advance of payment, so it wouldn't be for them. Some destinations are much better value than others.

Betterbidding.com is a very helpful site for more information.

Also try Hotwire, they do 'top secret hotels', so for example they might say 4* St Stephens Green area hotel with x, y, z ammenities. You don't find out the hotel name until you book. If you do a bit of digging (and use betterbidding mentioned in the previous post) you can often figure out what hotel it is.

I booked the Sheraton in Boston through Hotwire for $109 per night in Sept, the hotels own website was more than double this.
