Mitcubishe are going to stop making the Evo. Boooooo

    http://www.autocar.co.uk/blogs/autocarconfidential/archive/2011/03/01/the-mitsubishi-evo-is-no-more.aspx
The Lancer Evolution X, Eusegi told me, will be the last Evo. “There is still a demand [for the car],” he said, “but we must stop.” Eyebrow up.

“Our influence now is EV technology,” Eusegi said, adding that the decision was a “policy change”.

It seems Mitsubishi, which is going to introduce eight full electric or hybrid cars by 2015, has decided its image is about lowering CO2, not making lurid replicas of rally cars that don’t go top-level rallying any more.

Eusegi said that customers would find it “easier to understand” what Mitsubishi was about if it was no longer in this motorsport-inspired market.

    Pretty sad I think.

I hope to be dead before high performance petrols die.

    Sad times.

The EU has to take some of the blame too with their constant nannying about CO2 emissions.

We're seeing the death of decent capacity high revving petrol engines in favour of undersized engines with turbos, direct injection and God only knows what else, and these engines won't last kissing time.

But then again, given the way modern cars are built, I don't think car makers really care about not bothering to build cars properly.

It is very ironic that in an era where we are supposed to be more sustainable, cars are deliberately built to have a shorter working life.

Not exactly what I would consider to be 'progress'.

Well now we are mostly seeing crap low end "normals" making this transition, unless you consider a 4 litre V8 with Twin Turbos in the new M5 an "undersized engine" compared to the outgoing V10 5.0.

The Audi "stratified" injection petrol engines (RS4 FSI) rev to over 8000rpm and as they like to point out, has a piston speed in league with F1 engines.

Then there is the Alfa 4c using the 1750 Turbo engine and an intelligent lightweight chassis design to get better performance and handling that a fatter, heavier engine would afford.

Im not quite ready to consider performance cars dead and buried just yet. Different times, different challenges.

    Before the election...

They should have turbo'd the V10 instead, If I want to buy an M5 I want more power , not eco waffle
