I am hoping to attend WIT in September and I've been reading different threads about accommodation, I was thinking of staying in manor village because I heard it's the best for 1st years but nearly every thread I've read through has been nothing but bad comments towards manor village, and also the majority of the threads are from 07 and 08 so i was wondering has much changed or are they still the same ? I emailed manor about viewing apartments and they said you cant do it until around the 2nd week in June which will be way too late to put down a deposit. Any advice would be great :D

I am there atm as a first year...there seems to be problems everyday in the apartments ...security very strict on letting people in... why dont you check out Riverwalk? it's cheaper..free parking..security not strict, and it's only around 5 minutes extra from the college...Also, the internet in Manor is just fúcking abysmal!!!

    Recommend Riverwalk for accomodation personally

I don't live in Manor, but from what I've seen and heard it is quite strict on security and the apartment checks are a bit over the top on how clean it as to be. I think it's good for a lot of first years because it's a good place to make friends, and if it's your first year out of school you're not thrown in completely at the deep end.

Personally, I don't like Manor, but it's up to you.

EDIT: Forgot to say, I don't live in student accommodation, I live in a place called Rossgrove House (Rossgrove Court beside it is mainly students).

dont live in manor and never will. im in aylesbury which isnt too bad. no security here except on the ocasional wed night.

manor annoys me because they have clean checks every month/week(i forget which) but if your aprtment isnt clean you get a fine............ that is a f##king joke. plus you are able to have visitors stay over but they must pay 5 euro each......... seriously your already paying rent you shouldnt have to pay these extra. i recomend you keep looking. alyesbury, river walk or de bruin arent too bad. there are loads of places around so keep your options open

Never liked Manor, like living in a prison with cleaning checks and fines, and having to pay if you want friends over. Some of the apartments I was in were never in good condition, but a lot of that would be down to wear and tear.

    Look elsewhere tbh.

I live in Manor this year.
Mold ALL over the walls, b**ch in reception, monthly inspections, fines, absolute ****e.
I'd go riverwalk if I were you!

Ever considered moving into a house with other students? its usually cheaper and there are no restrictions. There are usually a few houses looking for people to fill rooms

the only good thing about the place is if you dont know anyone in Waterford its good for getting to know people but even at that I don't think it was worth it. awful place to live find anywhere else if you can. I heard ok things about riverwalk or theres some nice houses in lismore

Is college fields as bad as these reports of manor village? Also do you get a choice of which place to stay in if you opt for student accomodation?

don't move to Riverwalk- is a kip- like an old Mental Institution- everything grey and couches are sh!te. Don't let them fool you with their "free broadband"- their network is slower than dial up. Plus walls PAPER thin- which can be very inconvenient.. Badly designed aswell (ironic as was lecturer in Archetectur in WIT who drew up plans I believe) as kitchens to small to relax it and bedrooms to big to heat properly without costing a bomb on electricty..
I lived their in 1st year and hated it- it is good to get to know people and everything- but better of joining societies to do that and then have a nice place to live ha

Railway Square and Aylsebury Manor decent for first year if you want studenty accom- but better of with a house- Templars has some nice house, as does Rossgrove. i was in College street so I lived in nice little house in Poleberry.
Check websites like Daft.ie or Rent.ie to find houses.

Yes you can pick from College Fields, Manor Village or Riverwalk. They're all separate places so you can go to whatever one you want. To be honest if you're around 18/19 I'd recommend staying in the college approved accomodation for the first year anyway until you get your bearings. There's a lot to be said for living in a house but I've heard many horror stories about my classmates about living in private houses too. So it's not always the best option.

As for why you should not move to Templars Hall. Have a read of this thread sometime when you have an hour or two to spare

Dont go to riverwalk whatever ya do as said before kitchen/living room waaaay too small, bedrooms waaal to big. Always cold even wth heaters, walls paper thin, could hear the person upstairs pissing when i was there, good for sessions with the lax security buut if your not goin out whatever night dont experct any sleep beofre one:pac: always loadsa sessions every night, was always drained for college the next day. affordable yes, but id still expect better for that money..

I'm in the Garden Apartments and they are nice, decent internet, walls aren't too thin. Only down side is that you have to bring your own TV there (which sucks if you are the last to leave and your housemate has brought back their tv). It's €70 a week for a single room and 75 for an ensuit.

Thanks johnnykilo, It's for a 17 yr old, so hopefully we'll get College Fields at least for year 1.

Im a first year student currently living in Manor Village, I don't understand why it has such a bad name! I really like living there! Ok as another poster said we do have a bitch in reception and there is inspections but once the place is someway clean they aren't that strict! The security is grand and its not hard to get people into Manor! Your meant to pay but once your nice to security they will be reasonable with you! Its much nicer than Riverwalk! The living areas are soo small in Riverwalk! One of my friends is living in College Fields and hates it!

What about the internet there and the thin walls?

The internet isn't as bad as its made out to be! and the walls are thin enough but they aren't as thin as the ones in Riverwalk!

I was in manor for 2 years and I do agree about the first part and it's not too bad if you don't know anyone else there and you are in first year. The one thing I couldn't stand is the internet. It once took ~30 minutes to upload a 5mb file...

I must say that manor is not wrong for everyone.

    Simple that:
Its noisy, Security is stricter, you can not move our until the end, They have the right to walk in to your apartment and your bedroom when ever they like without your permission, and they do it a lot and on student nights its extremely loud and sleeping might not be happening until after 4AM.

But saying all those negative things some students like to party, the social environment with your peers and less care to anything. Security is strict because the people they have to deal with are not responsible enough to take care of them selfs and are still kids. The drunking food I see walking in and out of that place is just not funny.

So if you want a simple life with little responsibility manor is perfect. If you think you are mature enough and hosting partys is not your thing than private student houses are cheaper and more for you. its up to you.

    I hope I helped.
