My car was parked legally in sligo, during rag week a group of students picked it up and moved it into the middle of the road causing an obstruction, the car was towed.

I was unaware of this and went to report the car stolen. They told me it was towed and i had to pay 125 euro release fee even though i had done nothing wrong. Is this correct?

Who told you that the students moved it?
Who towed it - as it was on a road, I presume it was the council.
Given that you have witnesses, then presumably you can appeal and get your money back.

i knew something had to be up cos i knew i parked properly, then heard the story from someone in the students union that a gang of students had picked up a car and put it in the middle of the road,
so thats how i found out they had moved my car.
the guards towed it cos was causing an obstruction,

would i appeal it to the guards i wonder??

You heard a story from someone?
Generally when cars are clamped or towed there are photos taken. I would start there first.

However, I suspect that nobody is going to believe you based on a story that you heard!

just pay it an appeal later, I doubt they'll think you just abandoned your car in the middle of the road for no reason, maybe try and get CCTV footage of the prank?
