Dirty Throttle Control? NCT FAIL as they couldn't test emissions

Did the NCT yesterday in my 01 Skoda Octavia 1.6 Petrol and it failed on emissions as the guy said he could not test it. When he tried to rev the car at 2k RPM, it would not stay at that. He said that the Octavia was on an exception list of cars that suffered from this, meaning that he was allowed rev it higher but still no joy then. He tried all the tricks and hacks but nothing worked.

All sounds fishy to me. Sounds like they are bumping their failure numbers. Anyway, his recommendation was for my mechanic to clean the Throttle Control. Anyone ever heard of failure like this and know how it was fixed?

And just to make sure, my rear indicators aren't yellow enough! At least I know how to remedy that one.

On the contrary, it sounds to me like he did his level best to help you. Have you considered cleaning the throttle body, like he suggested?

Of course I have. I am trying to see if anything else could be the reason also to cover all bases before booking the retest.

my car went for the nct two weeks ago and it failed and the tester proceed to tell me one of the back break line mountings was broken and i said ok thats fine if there is a problem with it the problem should be fixed and he proceeded to tell me i needed a re-test at a cost of €28 so a few days after the test i jacked up the car to replace the break line mounting that i was told that was broken but i searched hi and low and i could not find no broken break line mounting so i dont nothing with the car because i could not find nothing wrong with it brought it back in and surprise surprise it passed so i believe they are failing cars for nothing to make more money on re-tests and when i said to the tested that there was nothing done to the car he tried to fully convince me that the mounting must have been replaced

Hi Bazwaldo...whatdid you do to remedy this....mine Octavia failed for exactly the same reason yesterday!

The throttle body needed replacing and we could not get a replacement in time for the NCT retest. Put the car through anyway but it passed. It still suffers from the same problem but I have 2 years to get it fixed. Beware there are many different types of throttle bodys for the Octavia if you are looking to replace your one.

They failed my Honda e few years back on the same thing. The tester said he " couldn't hold the revs at 3k" sounded like boll@x to me and his English was brutal which made it even harder to figure out what he was on about. I brought it back for the retest and it passed. After it passed a tester came out and asked me what I had done to fix it and I told him "nothing" he said it was strange and didn't think the car should have failed the first time. I reckon it's a scam excuse to get overtime for themselves.

They tried cleaning it first before replacing?

Yes, I cleaned it and it made no difference. Brought it to a mechanic and he did a more thorough job of it and still the same issue. You cannot hold the revs steady if the gears are in neutral. And this issue remains.

Its not certain that a new throttle body will fix this but its all the mechanic could think it could be as he tried loads of other stuff with the accelerator and so on with no joy.

Just failed the NCT for the same reason ..Skoda Octavia 1.6 petrol glx. He couldn't test it, the readings were off the scale.

I don't suppose we have confirmation for the throttle body? Thanks :)

I haven't got it replaced yet so can't confirm. I do reckon it is the fix for it though.
