This has been bugging me all day. I don't get the logic.

They are saying that now women's insurance will go up in line with male premiums but how the hell does this make sense??

Males(young males especially) are loaded due to being a higher risk, which means that female premiums are the base, so surely such a ruling means that male premiums should be dropping to female levels??

IMO this is will be just an excuse for insurance companies to extort more money from everyone.

I would love to hear the financial regulators view on this is......

This decision also raises a thornier question.

If it's illegal to discriminate - against women, gay people, old people, people of a different colour or race than yours - in (heavens, have they no sense?) insurance, doesn't that mean that it will be illegal to charge old people more for their health insurance?

    Whoopee if so.

the theory is that mens will go down, womens will go up. this will attract more men to the market, and fewer women, so the overall balance figure will be somewhat different to what it would currently be.

Ideally it should encourage more insurers into a by case judegement, such as ignition courses. But it probably wont.

But every single report I heard today, on the radio, tv and newspaper as well as the guy from the AA all made the point that now female policies would be going up. There has not been one mention all day of males ones going down!

its propoganda from the insurance companies, they really didnt want this ruling, so they're focusing on one aspect to try get people behind their cause.

what about age discrimination then? a lot of insurers won't touch you until you're 25 because you're apparently a higher risk.will that become illegal? Where do you draw the line?

They will. Insurance companies must insure you if you own a vehicle. They can name the price though.
