Renting land

    I have been renting a farm for the past 15 years. There is about 40 Acers of clear land very bad boundaries internal and external but good limestone land, plus 60 Acers of woodland which I haven't used in 3 years because my animals end up in a neighbours place because of on boundaries and lots of wild goats, I was always paying around €3,500. In recent years an old house which is in the middle of it has been restored and now it will be rented out to guests a different crowd every week so it will be awkward in its own way. now the landowner wants to increase the rent to €5,000 or close to it. With fertilizer prices and silage contractor 2011. I suppose I am looking for advice.:confused:

    125 an acre for 40 acres of good land doesnt sound that bad.

    Try and get a long lease on it and invest a bit of money in fencing, or try and get a reduction in rent in lieu of fencing.

    You've had the place for 15 years, surely you've some responsibility for fencing?

    work something longer term that can be mutually beneficial.

    theres a good article in this weeks farming independent. it covers an auction of leasing land in kilkenny. Massive demand drove the prices up. the top price was €425/acre for a fifty something acre plot. it was good tillage land apparently and no information was given on entitlements but more lands made €350 at the same auction.
    It's worth whatever the next man is willing to pay for it and you can be sure there'll be someone else who'll take it.
