    hello guys,

i am going to galway tomorrow and i bought a student ticket which the departure time should be for the 2/3/2011 but i mistakenly had the departure time for the 1/3/2011.

    What should i do?

I actually bought two tickets form me and my friend.

Never bought a ticket online, but the driver punches your ticket when you get on the bus. So it has not been validated yet. Also, I highly doubt the driver would care tbh.

If you are going from busaras find an inspector and tell them first and they may allow you use the ticket, usually you won't be allowed travel with the outward portion out of date.

It's a bit late now since you've probably already departed but the above is bad advice if you bought the ticket online.

The printoff from the E-mail that Bus Éireann send you IS NOT actually a valid ticket, it is only confirmation of the booking.

The bus driver enters the code on that printoff into his fare machine and the machine uses that code to print off a valid ticket for the journey. If the departure date on the printoff is wrong or you board the bus at a stop other then the bus stop quoted on the printoff then the code will not work on the fare machine.

I'm afraid you will have to buy another ticket. I made the same mistake last year, but BÉ refunded my internet ticket, you might be able to get a refund.

If you bought an actual ticket in advance from a booking office, then I'm not sure of the procedure to be honest.

Did you book online, let us know how you got on sure. Bus Éireann seem to be the best of the three CIE companies when it comes to dealing with honest mistakes like this.

In order for the internet orders to be validated on-bus or at a ticket office ALL the details must be correct:

Date, start point, end point and ticket type which will validate with the correct check code. The driver or office clerk can alter the ticket type, start point and end point but not the date which is pre-set on the machines.

Although an incorrect start point is nuissance as it can often require re-setting the machine twice which takes time. In the case of tickets presented in the wrong direction (Galway-Dublin rather than Dublin-Galway) I will normally refuse to accept them as they are invalid and in the case of returns will also cause conflict between the passenger and driver on the return journey. If I accept any internet ticket in an irregular way and it turns out to be a fraudulent ticket I am the one who is going to be answering unpleasant questions.

I will also under no circumstances accept handwritten internet tickets, we are under instructions not to and the depot cash offices will refuse to accept them which would leave me owing the full fare to the company for these internet tickets.

I made that mistake myself and they refunded my fare. If you keep copy of email & also of ticket you used instead and email it to them, they should refund it. It takes a week or two for it to be done but if you have all the info it should be okay. But it does say at the bottom of the confirmation email that refunds are at the discretion of the company!

A refund will be issued minus 5euro for admin fee.
