Was going to post about the Supra on the pic thread just now that I'd lov one but I reckon I'd look like a fartknocker in one.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=70933226&postcount=1999

I'd also love my BB4 lude back but I'm definitely beyond that sadly.

38 years old. An old fart by may peoples standards.

What you reckon - too old for a Supra/Prelude?

    Any other age/motor taboos?

Well, I'm 61 and don't think I'm old enough for a Mercedes, excepting AMG variants of course.

Had a subaru legacy b4 when i was 28, got the odd boy racer comment from a few lads at work. pffft i used to just call em jealous....because thats exactly what they were. Enjoy your baby screaming & coughing puke onto your shoulder at 6 o'clock in the morning. If thats your buzz good for you.

Theres more to life than - mortgage - have kids - finally pay off mortgage - die.

Im 31 now & i fully intend on owning a few more quick cars. Honda civic type-r, an impreza sti. Dream car would be an NSX or GTR. When i see an old guy in a nice car i think its kinda cool.

Jealousy...its an ugly thing. Drive what you want.

IMO, in Ireland due to Insurance and Tax the age of enthusiast car owners is infact older than any online stereotype would suggest.

I agree, it would be way older than in most other countries

That's a real shame, you're denying yourself some fun cars.

I've got an aversion to them. My father drove them for years but most of them were 2 litre because of the road tax. Hence I think slow, boring, well built, slow, boring etc.

I bought a Celica when I was 26, a lad living near me said I was having a mid life crisis :pac:

Understandable, if you've only ever experienced the four cylinder cars. Mercedes have always needed big engines and automatic to make them shine.

Yes, if you want acres of sheet metal you need lots of litres or cubic inches no matter what the badge. The only big car I ever drove that I really lusted over was an ex Group 1 Z28 with a road exhaust hung on it.

Mind, the last Mercedes I had was a W202 C280, a lovely little car that wasn't too slow. Was that Camaro the one that came from the factory with the big engine, the restrictive headers and the steel wheels?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,721 ✭✭✭E39MSport

    I'd love an NSX.

All of you are right of course. Easier said than done though for some unfortunately. The mind is a terrible affliction.

You could argue though that if I actually had an issue with perception then I made a big mistake with the rrs :D

Fok it lads - now I have that craving again .....

...trying to draw the line at 4 cars though.

I had the same W202 - great pick up at 80/90 when you push the magic pedal.

Long time since I drove it, I do remember that the engine was from an earlier year than the car itself. If I remember the gearbox was a Muncie and the diff a detroit locker. It was the year after they were outlawed from Group 1 because they kept winning everything. They guy I worked for at the time was into American cars so I tried to persuade him to buy it. He reckoned that £3,500 was too much for a second hand car. A couple of years later I tried to persuade him to buy a genuine gullwing SL for £12,500.

38 ? Too old for a Supra. Not in the slightest chap. The UK owners club that I'm a member has plenty of members in that age bracket and beyond mind you. It is essentially a classically styled gt cruiser in stock form. The recession has more or less put an end to young lads splashing out on luxuries such a Supra. They have absolutely plummeted in price.

n/a's can be had here for 1500-2000
I've seen a 6 speed twin turbo recently for 6,000 which was an owners club members car and ended up being sold to someone from Sweden.

"If" you were looking for massive power I'd suggest going to the uk for one as there is fantastic examples with well respected tuners such as SRD, Garage Whifbitz etc that have tuned many of the Supras over there.

The amount of Supras on the roads are decreasing all the time , so it is going to become a much rarer sight on Irish tarmac. I think it will evolve into a genuine classic in future years .

Essentially what I'm saying is I don't think the Supra is the type of car you can be too old for at 38. If you had said a 93 civic with dodgy viper stripes and blue lights underneath then I'd be questioning your motives lol.

Well i'm just turning 37 tomorrow and I've recently bought an r32 skyline. Before that I had a few manta's with the last being a 16v 400R, which is now going to get a full rebuild from the shell up and a stonking great v8 plonked in the engine bay. I started my midlife crises in mky 20's and there's no sign of it slowing yet. :D

Oh, here's a good one for ya. About a year ago I came into possesion of a mk3 supra turbo which had been lying up since the last owner passed away. From old age !!! He was in his late eighties  I **** you not. He even had the car adorned with stickers like max power mag freebies and the like. Don't know what sorta crises you would call that, lol

    Beat that anyone !!

I was only saying here last week my father is 76 years of age and drives a 06 H/B Civic. I think its a ses or something like that. Its a quick car!!. He is a gas man! I forgot to say it has all the extras like the floor lighting and cool stuff.

Freind of mine is a 54 year old marine engineer and bought a 05 Impreza sti :) and treats her 10 times better than a 20 year old (no offence to 20 year olds) I know if i were buying a car like that i think i may feel a bit better buying from a maturer owner !!

Now, I've a bit of a hankering for an EP82.

Not a little knackerwagon, but a nice, clean quad lamped EP82.

    I'm 28 (I had to count there, was thinking I was 25 :()

Regardless of what age a driver of a tourer style is, what about a Starbo drivers age?

I have a wealthy uncle in Carlow who is over 60. He drives a Porsche 911, I think its around the 08 mark. Very nice car and he drives the balls out of it.

Put it this way, you already have an e31 right? The Supra was parallel vs the 850CSi back in the day. In for penny in for a pound, your already on this track!

    An interesting read:

To counter that I have an XK8 that everyone says I am too young to have, I got it when I was 31, Im 34 now. But I dont feel like an old fart :)

Bmw 316i 1998 is the everyday car for anonymous run of the mill purposes :D

For the future I want a 1990 Celica, cos I had one back in 98 . . Im rebuying cars I used to own.

Well, I've seen a woman of at least my age with an S1 Elise, she gets it serviced in the same place as I do. Invite her and avoid the sexism charge.:)

I hate people stereotyping cars as for fuddy duddies, or old mans cars or girly cars - it's just stupid, but I drove a CLS 320 last Saturday and felt I was too young for it ! ( well more that it was actually less sporty than my bmw 320d estate really ).

op - your not too old for any car as far as I am concerned, you buy what you like.
