The slow realisation on Saturday afternoon and going into that night knowing that the likes of Coughlan, O'Donoghue, O'Rourke, Hanafin and many many more of their ilk were not going to make it.

They say a pigs orgasm lasts 30 minutes, I had one lasting several hours on Saturday. :)

I would recommend this 400 times, if I could.

Without doubt my highlight of this election. Has a more arrogant, pompous and patronising man ever graced Dail Eireann? I very much doubt it. The man FF stuffed into a dusty shoebox (along with Martin Cullen) at the last election for fear that the country might tell them where to go if he took any kind of visible role in the run up to voting.

I don't think I ever seen an interview of his where he didn't question the intelligence of his fellow interviewees or the interviewer himself. A perfect example being the rerun of the last Lisbon treaty referendum where he, as Minister of State for European Affairs, proceeded to insult the intelligence of the entire country claiming "they just didn't get it". We got it alright Dick, you and the rest of your shower just didn't like our first answer.

And it's quite clear he was far from popular within his own party. His running mate in Wicklow, Pat Fitzgerald, just today lashed out at his self serving behaviour in trying to ditch him in an attempt to save his seat. Plus, he didn't even have the stones to face the final vote count.

Good riddance to one almighty windbag.

John O'Donoghue reminding the people of the ironic nature of his departure speech in a building that he, yes HE! had built.
Good riddance to a parasitic organism.

The humiliation of John O Donohue was the highlight for me .

If he hadnt been caught globetrotting , and flying around like a big eejit at our expense he would have got in automatically as ceann comhairle .

And by the way John - you didnt build that hall in Killarney - I did . That was my money not yours

So many to pick from, but probably the "Mary massacre":

    Mary Coughlan
    Mary Hanafin
    Mary O'Rourke

Bill Tormey, the FG candidate for Dublin North West on TV3 with Vincent Brown.

He was either drunk or just crazy :p

Now lets all sing Waltzing Matilda

That interview freaked me out after voting for Fine Gael. Thankfully he didn't get in.

The election of Luke Flanagan for me and I voted for him. Can't wait to hear him speak in the Dail. You can be guaranteed that the merits of every bill will be discussed at length and any attempt to slip something in will be exposed.

Favourite moment: Every moment of the weekend watching FF getting f*cked.
Least favourite moment: Learning that FF earned more seats than I wanted them to win. Bástards!!

    Favourite moment: FF getting raped.

As regards bastions of Irish society, that's one down, two to go.

Next, we must eliminate Fine Gael and the Catholic Church.

    - Luke Flanagan's response to news of his election
    - The cheering when Dick Roche was eliminated
    - Bryan Dobson telling Brian Cowen "You're still... a relatively young man"

High points. Obviously the scourging of Fianna Fáil. Especially Coughlan, O'Donoghue, Hanafin, Mansergh(why use one word when a couple of hundred will do) but Roche losing out gave me my ultimate Portillo moment.

The amount of new blood from the other parties entering the Dáil. Hopefully with fresh faces, comes new ideas.

Some Independents who will make a good and positive contribution to the Dáil. Shane Ross, Stephen Donnelly and 'Ming' Flanagan(I know) spring to mind.

Richard Boyd Barrett, Clare Daly and Joe Higgins getting elected. We all need a laugh now and again and with these three we will, also Adams won't get a look in with these three.

Dr Bill Tormey not getting elected. Theres enough loose cannons elected, but this guy is off the scale.

Mario Rosenstock's sketches on Vincent Browne's show. Some of them were masterful. Vincent Browne's show also has to be a high point, even if its only for the entertainment value.

Low points. 387,385 people gave Fianna Fáil a first preference. I can forgive about 30,000 as they are members, family and friends, as for the rest I really wonder just what does it take.

Adams, Healy-Rae and Lowry getting elected. Really.

Having to listen to Declan Ganley on the airwaves once more. Don't like him and definitely don't trust him.

Paul Sommerville not getting elected. I think he would have been a good guy.

The immediate shannanigans of some of the old guard elected, particularly Phil Hogan. Memo to phil: The times for games are well and truly over.

Listening to Fionnan Sheehan on Pat Kenny talking about the geographical spread of new Ministers. If that is a worry for the new government then I would worry about other priorities.

    The oddments.

Following my wife into the polling station to see her vote as it was her first time to vote in this country. When she saw the candidate list(19 of them) I heard her say in her best Jewish American Princess accent ' Jeez Haven't you guys heard of electronic voting'. Que laughter all round the polling station.

Once more my wife laughing on reading Permabear's comments on Dylan Haskins having more Facebook friends than first preference votes.

My second daughter breaking in to 'Ming, Ming I love you but you only have 14 hours to save the country' when he was elected.

Finally shaking my head in wonderment at the election of Mick Wallace in Wexford. A socialist property developer. A bit like Billy Connolly calling a boat full of Northerners 'Orange Fenians'.

Do you think, our generation will see that happening? I'm 40 now, I won't see it, I'm afraid, even if I wanted to ;)

    Now to my favourite moments:
    - FG missing the overall majority
    - Sinn Fein doing well
    - To see the words 'Blueshirt Sc**' on a FG poster

I sincerely hope so, although with bigots like David Quinn, Youth Defence, Coir, as well as the elderly massgoers around, it'll take some time.

sorry for derailing the thread, I'll mention another low point - Lenihan keeping his seat. WTF? I nearly wouldn't have minded either Coughlan or Hanafin retaining theirs if he'd lost his.

Nah, not disgusted, it was delectable watching his aggrieved expression. The look of distaste for the ungrateful peasants that have now turned on him, etc.

Dick Roche's idiotic recount demand when it wouldn't make a difference to who the seats got given to was almost as good.

Nothing like seeing a good cull of the deadwood from Irish Politics. Now let's hope Martin can keep them from running again..

I know it's 2011. I was just making the comment, because it was the one and only FG poster which had something offensive written on it, whereas loads of FF and even more SF posters were interfered with.
For example Helen McCormack with a Hitler mustache and two swastikas on Beaumont Road. Whoever did that, has no clues about history or politics either.

By the way, it wasn't me writing onto poor Paschal O'Donoghue's poster

Well either the moment at the Dun Laoghaire count when Richard was elected, the FG reception at the Burlington (watching SF's seats overtaking FF's at 11-9 was a jubilant moment - and that's coming from an SF hater!), or else earlier in the campaign, YOU'RE HARANGUING ME VINCENT!!!!! (Moan Burton)

Its a bit like watching a repeat of your favourite programme. You know what happens but it is just as enjoyable second time around.

The other was to see Mick Wallace elected. I know he is a developer but anyone who creates the Italian quarter and loves football is OK by me.
