Cash Only Deal Discount

    Hi all,

Thinking of changing the car this summer. Looking at a megane coupe. Brand new off the list.

I'm going to sell my current car privately as there's no way a trade in would cover the cost of the rest of my loan.

Just wondering what you folks thought a fair % discount would be for a straight up cash deal, no trade in. Trying to set out my budget and what it will cost with a discount factored in. I'm thinking at least 15% off the list price. I'd be going for one of the higher spec models with 1 or 2 extras. Metallic paint, tinted windows, ect. so am kinda hoping for 15% or more.

Just wondering what the consensus is out there.

Every dealer will have different discount cash deals to work off. Depends what the car is being bought for from Renault, how much profit is in it ?

Also is the car a popular model ? If it is there will be significantly less discount.

15% I'd be very very surprised if you 10%, closer to 3/4% I'd be thinking on something new in that price range.

On most cars you'd be doing very well to get a 10% discount, but 15% is acheivable on Renault's at the moment. Not much more in it for the dealer over 15%.

Well considering Renault would give you a 3,100 minimum Trade in allowance (thats more than 12% of the cost of the car) then its safe to assume would would get more than a 3-4% cash only discount, given that the dealers margin is much greater on a cash only deal

They get €1250 off the Governments VRT for a scrappage trade in though, so in reality they are only offering €1850 off the price of the car, which would be closer to 7% I'd imagine?

8% to 8.5% is probaly the norm and a bit more realistic than 15% or more. But it depends on what discounts Renault have with the dealer at any given time too.

nope, their scrappage scheme is the government 1250, another 1250 from renault, plus the 3100
