European courts have decided that it is discriminatory to differenciate between men and women when setting the cost of car insurance etc. Therefor insurance costs are set to drop for men and rise for women. However, this will not fully take effect until december 2012.

Are insurance companies obliged to lower rates for men or just increase them for women to the same cost that men would pay ?

We're still ripped off here big style.
I would like to be equal with the continental Europeans, or even the British, in terms of what I pay.

Those poor insurance companies, I don't know how they survive.

Both guys and girls will suffer as a result of this. I'd say the reduction for guys will be minimal at best. The only winner her is the insurance companies.

I do hope i'm wrong. I'd love nothing more than to be able to afford insurance on something more than a 1.6 petrol.

    22.

I was over exaggerating there a bit, but insurance is still ridiculous despite having a full license for 4 years, and no claims.

Good news. No more double standards with regards to discrimination.

Once you hit 25 your premiums go down considerably. When I was 24 I was paying €1100 for a 1.2 full licence, when I was renewing it at 25 it dropped to €648?? I enquired about this and was told that 17-24 was the most dangerous age bracket for male drivers.

I worked in an insurance company; (IT side of things). And this is what they always said too.

For far to long Irish people have in my opinion paid well over the odds for insurance here,When I was 24 with a full Irish licence(artic ) my premium was £1200 punts on a 1.1 ltr.
Guys working for the same company in the UK with the same licence paid less, Also for year's people who drove buses&trucks got hammered on insurance here because of some imaginary risk associated with driving a truck/bus while someone with the same licence in the uk got a discount.
