Thought I'd bagged my 1st 380 in Irish airspace yesterday, D-AIMB passed just north of Drogheda according to FlightRadar24 yet on Casper it shows it as D-AIKL, anyone any idea why its showing as two different aircraft?

Lufthansa A380 D-AIMB operating flight LH400 (FRA/JFK) did indeed pass westbound over Drogheda @ 1215 yesterday and was clearly visible from south Dublin.

    :D

Cheers N7, I photo'd it and N780UA running parallel even though I must be 35-40 miles away. It passed just south of Tipperary eastbound at 08:30ish this morning.

There was one on Casper Dusseldorf heading towards the English east coast, before disappearing just a minute or two ago. Heading our way.

    Visible on Casper UK now.

Even at that distance your pics aren't bad, what body are you using? I'm using a 450D with a 70-300is which is supposedly superior to the 75-300 and my (long distance/high altitude) pics would be fuzzier than that.:(

Seeing as this thread is developing into a Hi-Alt one, what's with Martinair?? I snapped a Martinair 767 yesterday morning and this morning going over and neither showed up on any of the radar sites! Does that mean it's transponder is switched off?

Don't know specifically about Martinair, but they may be contracted to NATO.

With the SBS1, usually military and their contracted aircraft only report callsign and altitude, and not report position and heading. So you know that C5's, C17's, Omni Air and Evergreen etc. aircraft are somewhere in a ~200 mile radius, but not exactly where.

Its to do with Mode C and Mode S transponder. They'd be in alot of trouble if their xpndr was turned off.

Emirates would normally use a smaller aircraft into Toronto daily but the government of Canada is p!ssy about giving them more than 3 flights a week so the A380 was switched off some New York runs to meet the need. I don't know if the double bridges at YYZ are used or not.

Yup, twice a day as far as I know, Emirates as well, not to mention Air France. I've managed to photo all three operators 380's over Ireland though they usually pass well to the south or north of Dublin.

It's hard to give you a definite time or track, sometimes they'll use a track 40-50miles south of Cork, other times they're well to the north and an Air France and an Emirates passed directly over my house (south Dublin) in the past couple of weeks, generally the westbounds seem to pass over Ireland anytime between 11am and 2pm and eastbounds usually between 7am and 10am but I've seen the 380's well outside these times as well. Go to www.flightradar24.com. Happy hunting!
