buying from a UK main dealer

    Hi,
Not my first time buying in the UK but first from a main dealer a Citroen in this case. The product spec of the car shows a 12 month warranty as part of their approved selected used car which the car I'm buying is.

I presume that Irish or not (ie the car is leaving the UK to be registered here) is irrelevant on this, ie the price include this 12 month warranty and so this warranty should be provided. Would I be correct ?

And not having bought a car from the UK in a few years I'm not sure of exact documents I must bring back in order to register the car here as I see from the revenue website the process has changed. Before the V5 was sufficient now they're talking about a CO2 certificate and other stuff not sure about.

If you've been through the new "import" process would you mind telling me what document were you asked for. Cheers

You really need to check this with Citroen UK. If the car is less than three years old the manufacturers warranty would apply here, although there can be year three exceptions. If the car is older it may just be a dealer warranty which may not be honoured here.

Presume it isn't until you have it in writing that it is.

Edit: Stevie Dakota got there first, and explained it better!

My brother imports BMW's from the UK and most of the time they would be between 18 and 30 months old so the BMW manufacturers 3 years warranty still applies. He has had work carried out by Joe Duffys with no issues that it is a UK car. It means he can sell a car with warranty while having reduced risk.

As said above you would need to check if Citroen Ireland if the UK warranty is applicable here. If its a dealer warranty then its pretty much useless unless you plan on heading over to get it fixed, thereby incurring additional costs.

    thanks for your responses
I rang the dealer to check out as I'm getting a 2008 reg car and he said it is a standard 12 warranty with up to 60 days abroad. Not too sure what that means but will know more tomorrow.

I take it all the docs I need to import the car is the V5c, not sure they have a MOT for a 3 year old car, the invoice and my ferry ticket. anything else ?
