    hey,

Myself and the girlfriend are thinking about doing a round the world trip and were thinking of South america, asia, oz and new zealand. We're both in our thirties and would like to work along part of the way. I know we're too old to get a holiday visa for Oz and New Zealand so i'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of places we might be allowed to work.
I know Canada is one option.
Also how strict are employers in OZ/Nz regarding employing people without work visas?.

Im not over 30 but some options off the top of my head would be Canada, anywhere in the EU, maybe teaching english in South America or Asia.
You could try and get qualified as a dive instructor and do that.
Work cash in hand in the States perhaps.

Some great ideas there, but just to let you know, the Dive instructor one wouldn't make you much money. I remember in Malaysia my Dive master (the level below instructor) got €8 per dive. Which was more or less €8 a day, max €16. It would take a lot of time/money to get to Instructor (and Divemaster too mind).

The cash in hand would be dodgy as you could obviously get in trouble and thrown out of the country. Also, with so many people looking for jobs it's getting harder to convince employers to pay you cash.

Teaching English is always a good idea. In my experience however you'll always earn more money in Ireland than in any of the countries you will travel to, given the short amount of time you have (so you're never going to get a high paying job).

I've found it absolutely always makes sense to save a bit more in Ireland, and then save money by settling down in a cheap country for a month or two. You could stay with a family somewhere for very cheap, or rent an apartment. You'd still be stopping somewhere and getting to know the place, but under no obligation to work.

This of course only works if you're interested in non-English speaking countries. If you want Oz/NZ it may not work. But you could work in exchange for room and board as a WOOFER.
