Dun Laoghaire here, voted #1 Richard Boyd Barrett, #2 Eamon Gilmore, #3 Mary Mitchell O Connor, #4 Sean Barrett :D
Couldn't be happier with my constituency!

Anyone else in this position? Could hardly believe that my exact ballot paper ended up getting elected :)

Did you just award preferences based on where they appeared on the political spectrum (ie. going left to right)?

Been a supporter of Richard's for years and absolutely delighted to see him elected. I've thought for a long time that an FG/Labour coalition is the only sound option right now to get us out of this mess ergo I voted for Gilmore #2 (leader of the junior party has to get a seat IMO and he should be Tainiste with a bit of luck) and then the two FG candidates. Would have voted for Bacik as well, probably ahead of MM'oc or Sean Barrett if her policies on prison sentencing weren't so blatantly sexist.

FG was always going to be the big party in this Dail but we need Labour in there too to restrain them a bit. Too much power and they will lose the head just like everyone in the Dail seems to. I actually wish the FG:Labour ratio was a bit lower to give Labour more clout in the upcoming government, but broadly speaking I'm thrilled with the result.

I campaigned and voted for Thomas Pringle, Independent, in Donegal Southwest, so naturally am delighted at his long-awaited success. It is the first time in my 30 years or so of voting that I actually voted for a successful candidate. Firsts are fantastic.

Re the others, I'm happy enough with Pearse Doherty as well, I think he personally is intelligent and gives us a second local voice from the left, although I am not thrilled with Sinn Fein as a party - still too many secrets never to be told, and transparency will always be a core value for me.

Dinny McGinley I'm neutral on, he's been the invisible TD for many years, not done much good or much damage, but he will be in government now, hopefully he might remember who he represents better than any Donegal FF has to date. I will be very upset if he is appointed Ceann Comhairle, though, as that will make the next election a scrap for just two seats in this constituency, with no possibility of making a change in the third.

Sorry Patrick, I didnt expect you to expalin why you voted the way you did - people only have to justify the way they vote to themselves, not to others. It was meant to be a joke, although it may not come across that way when you are reading it. Comments like that are more suited to AH.

    Did poorly in South Kerry

Wanted to see 2 FG and 1 Lab

Ended up with 1 FG and 2 gene pool FF

On a bright note the Bull is gone and Helay Rae will have no power or pull in a FG/Lab Gov.

No Fianna Fail in Cork South West........Excellent result!

Great to see that smug Mary Coughlan get her reward in Donegal!

Close, Meath West 2 FG, Tobin was always going to pick up the other seat for SF, but delighted Brady FF lost.

He would have got in, if not for the most stupid comment made by any sitting TD anywhere in the country told us it is hard to live on a TDs salary of 100K.

I kind of knew my No.1 and 2 would be eliminated so gave Pringle 3 in Donegal SW. Happy enough.

If he had been eliminated it would have went to O'DomhnailL, so that if there was to be a FF TD, it wasn't Coughlan. Win Win really!

Labour's Derek Nolan topped the poll in Galway West and Colm Keaveny took a seat for Galway East.

I'm very happy with these results.

    I voted in Galway West;
    1-Nolan (Topped the poll)
2- Ó Brolcháin (Green, lovely guy and has some great policies so gave him a preference, although I dislike his party. He was quickly eliminated as was expected)
3-Ó Clochartaigh (Sinn Féin, he polled well)
4-Connolly (Independent, she's fighting for the last seat)
5-Walsh, Eamon (Independent, all round great guy and local businessman but never had a chance of being elected.

Wasn't offended at all! More than happy to explain my voting pattern, to be honest I just think a left/right model of politics is outdated, it hasn't worked for the rest of the world so I fail to see why it would work here - I like a lot of FG's policies but many of them go too far, in which case I see Labour as a sort of leash, to prevent them going overboard. I put MM'oc before Barrett simply because Barret is more traditionally a "sure thing" for a seat. And as long as FF or the Greens didn't get a seat from us I would still be very happy with how my constituency voted.

Richard has always represented people power in Dun Laoghaire. Inside and outside the council his policy has always been to defy the political establishment in favour of the actual desires of ordinary people. He never put in a proposal without asking the people whether or not they approved of it, which is more than I can say for anyone else.

He's the only one also who argues for genuine public consultation on redevlopments and building projects, instead of the "publish the proposals 2 days before the vote and put them on display in the back of a filing cabinet in a locked toilet of the town hall basement" type of consultation most of the councillors seem to go in for - may he be as much a voice for transparency in Dail Eireann as he is in Dun Laoghaire!

Really I'm just surprised and delighted that the first four preferences on my ballot paper got elected, couldn't have asked for a better result and just wondering if this is a common experience or if I'm just incredibly lucky :D

My 3rd, 4th, and 5th preference got in. 10 preferences made in total. Result was not perfect but close.

    Sorry to hear that :(
What constituency are you in? I suppose people in bigger constituencies like myself are luckier in a way since with 4 or 5 seats up for grabs, you'll almost definitely get someone you approve of in at least one of the seats.

Was hoping for a FG government with a few independents to keep them honest. I voted Ind, Ind, FG, FG accordingly, but it didn't work out in my constituency and it doesn't look like it'll work out on a national level either.

Voted Adams 1 and Ged Nash 2(he is a great guy) both got in, Adams topped the poll like I knew he would.

No FF or SF/IRA in Waterford. That's as good as it gets nearly.

Only improvement on that would have been an extra Lab/Ind seat at the expense of FG.

Yes, because that's exactly what was holding it back. As well as the fact that he was unelected.

I voted for Alan Kelly so I'm happy enough he got in.
I gave Lowry nothing but of course i'm in the minority here amongst the hordes of Lowry followers

    Yes and No.

I didn't have any canditates that I personally though could make a difference.

So I voted so not give me vote to FF, GP,

So it that sense as no FF or GP where elected in my area then yes

Indeed, keeping out Hanafin is major icing on the cake. No FF TDs here - I'm proud of ye, Dun Laoghaire-ites!

The real icing on the cake though is keeping Bacik out. Absolutely can't stand her, or her warped brand of "equality" policy...

    Loais Offaly.

The utter dedication to all things cowen continues.
2 FF's (down from 1) 2 FG's (up from one) and one shinners.

FG policy in Offaly not great....no stong candidate in Tullamore.
Very strong guy in Edenderry but not big enough.

I'm absolutely delighted. I voted for Michael McNamara (LAB) here in Clare and he's become the first Labour representative for the county since 1992. When he was announced as the candidate in December, it appeared unlikely he would be elected at all. An excellent campaign led to him being elected 2nd with 14.8% of 1st preference votes. In a traditional FF stronghold, this must be seen as an excellent performance, achievement and result!

Was it him that managed to get the bus corridors in? That was a good thing but i cant see why he was against the bypass.
It put me off giving him a high preference too.
