had a calf born on friday i assumed it was a friesian heifer , when i went to register it it turns out its supposed to be out of avd a bb bull... now it in no way looks like a bb. Does any one have any of his calves are they proine to being black and white... there is a chance it could be out of my br/fr bull, would you register it as a bb or a friesian , i bought the br fr bull on 22 may , this cow was ai'd on 21 may with the bb

how do you mean when you went to register it it turned out to be belgain blue? do you mean when you looked up ai sheet you realised sire was bb?
I have black and white bull calf, same color as freisan from a blue bull and a bluey colored cow so i guess it can happen

AVD was an all white bull so would give blue calves from friesians.

a blue and white bull (like EDJ) can give black and white calves from FR cows

    Put down what you like
it doesn't take a rocket scientist to spot the difference between a BF and a BB

well thank you, a fr heifer would be alot more valuable than a bb. Have you never seen a black and white bb

Its not just the color, what about the narrow shape and general piss poor muscle of a BF compared to a BB

if it was a ho/fr and a bb there would be no problem knowing the difference

One very good tell-tale sign of a BB calf is it's narrow muzzle. It's mouth is always that bit narrower and smaller. This makes it harder for them to suckle when born.
It really can be hard enough to tell them apart when young. I had one BB born last year and it looked for all the world like a Fr.;)

AVD is very short gestation bull even for a blue(283 days) that cow of yours calved on 280 days so could well be a blue. What's the av gestation period of a 100% BF?

Hold off registering her for 2 weeks and back end/muscle should develop considerably more than her BF companions, AVD is very easy calving but should develop well.

Ya, wait a couple of weeks. A BB should be showing some muscle by then. Dont forget the 21 days though, for the birth date to regristration date, or you'll have the Law down on you.;)
