Advice needed - Copper cylinder leaking, only 5 years old!

Hi folks, I discovered a pool of water in my hot press (ground floor) yesterday.

On closer inspection it is the cylinder itself that is leaking, now, when I looked closely I noticed that the cylinder had a very large dent on the bottom, it must have been dropped out of the delivery truck onto the ground to achieve a dent on that size.

My question is, should the cylinder have some sort of warranty, or is the builder (who is still in business, but is a *****) responsible as this part was clearly faulty/damaged during fitting and it was only a matter of time before a leak occurred.

These cylinders usually last 30+ years, would this type of issue be covered by home bond? I'm going to call Aviva and ask about the home insurance, but there is probably an excess on the policy which will not make it worth while to claim.

Failing all else, I saw a thread on here last week regarding someone receiving a quote of 1K to replace a hot water cylinder, but it was deemed way too high by those of you in the know on here, what sort of money am I looking at to have it replaced?

It's approx 1.2M tall & .5M diameter (I can get exact dim's if it makes any significant difference) It's located on the ground floor in a hot press with no obstructions, or shelves blocking it. It's a straight forward, drain disconnect, remove, hopefully not have to reroute pipes too much and reconnect.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    G

They get replaced newer than that.

If you find the same cylinder with connections in the same place so there is no alterations to be made, €150 would fit it.

    Hi Victor
Had the same issue as you Christmas week
the tank was about 5 years old but of poor qulaity construction and was leaking around a weld.

I got a high capacity tank from these guys ~150 euro
    http://www.coppercraft.ie/

Fully insulated and with immersion fitted.

The first quote I got was 850 euro

Luckily for us a plumber mate did it as a nixer a lot cheaper.

Very happy with the new tank as it is twice the capacity of the old one.

Defo shop around though as we saved significantly on the inital quote.

No warrenty... However as you operate a business and are vat registered you should be able to claim that back.

Supply and fit of the cylinder works out about 700 euro on adverage. You will get it cheaper.

I dont rate 20 psi cylinders well. I would rather 40 psi however cheap is cheap and cylinders are not as prone to the pressure differentual they use to be from back boilers.

I've been on to the builders that built this place (Kimpton Vale) apparently the plumbers they used are no longer in business, but I was told that they used to use

Euro Heating & Plumbing Supplies Ltd
Address: 3 Beechlawn Ind Complex Greenhills rd Walkinstown 12 Co. Dublin
    City of Dublin
    Phone: (01)4502933

as their supplier, there is no answer from them all morning, does anyone know if they are still in business or not? I'm trying to source the exact cylinder to minimise the pipework required.

I have attached a photo of the cylinder if anyone knows where I could get my hands on the exact same one I'd appreciate it.

Thanks very much lads, the info and advice I have received here has been fantastic.

That plumber was rough! Any plumbing supplier would have a standard cylinder like that. Dublin providers I found to be cheapest lately.

you'd want to get a couple of aav's and probably a bypass valve fitted. i wouldnt imagine you'll do a straight swap because the exist cyl looks like its piped in. when fitting the new one expect to have to take it out again some day
