    Hey All,

My parents and a few friends are looking to ditch Sky and having been asking for a cheap replacement receiver. I have suggested them getting a combo box so they can get RTE and SAT on one EPG.

That is where the fun starts, I've spent that last week researching for a receiver that meets the following:

    1. ~€200
    2. Sat Receiver (HD preferable but not mandatory)
    3. DTT receiver (Can be internal tuner or USB)
    4. 2-7 Day combined EPG - FreeSat + DTT or something like Enigma2 Crossloader or equivalent.

I've seen lots of combo receivers but I cannot find out if the EPG will the more than now and next.

The Qbox mini is a little on the pricey side but looks to meet all the requirements, do you know of anything that would be similar but cheaper and easier to get your hands on?

    Thanks!

If you want to fiddle, have no Interactive Text or Application on Satellite or DTT, have minmimal compatibility (just lidl comag box level) get any combo. It will do DTT epg for nearly 7 days, but likely not Series Link. If it does Satellite 7 day EPG, it's via Internet XML or reading the Freesat info without a licence, which could stop working any time BBC /Freesat get permission from Ofcom.

If you want full Satellite and DTT compatibility get a Saorview DTT box and a "Freesat HD" box, yes two boxes.

If you want one box and better than fiddling and bargain basement entry level compatibility, then wait till just after Public Launch in May 2011:
There may be either single Sat box with Dual feed (fully Freesat HD compatible and partially Irish compatible but better than a combo) or a Combo with Fully compatible (Saorview) DTT and partially compatible (Text but likely not auto tuning or Multiscreen Interactive) on Satellite.

True Series link PVR on satellite ideally needs "Freesat HD"
True Saorview or Saorsat PVR with Series link needs Nordig 2.2 PVR features and possibly MHEG5 to be on safe side.

    Thanks watty.

I want to get a few days epg on both sat and dtt on one epg. Internet xml is fine.
do you know of any combo out there today that does internet xml epg for around 200?
    Series link is not important.

    Thanks!

The QBox Mini is currently the only receiver that comes remotely close to what you want in that price range.

Thanks! The Qbox was the best I could find alright, but was hoping there was something else out there.

A clone Dm800 Pro (Rev M tuner) with an added DVB-T USB tuner would come in well under the 200 euro .
It can do everything you are looking for but its a clone.
Better peace of mind with a Qbox.
