    Hi all,

As the title says, I would like to holiday this Summer, abroad. I did so last year, but can't quite remember the specifics of it. I fully intend on going out to Coolock this week, but won't be free to go until Thursday earliest. Just wondering, can anyone point me in the direction of the relevant info?

A little back story. Im in a FETAC level 5 course from Monday to Wednesday(so no accusations of being a lazy dole sponge :) ) which is why I cant get out to Coolock for a while yet.

Isn't it 13 days of holidays abroad that Im entitled to? That figure seems to stand out in my head.

    Thanks

hold up, am i getting this, you say you want to go holidays and your on the dole,

jesus christ looks like my tax is going to a good place.

I work 6 days a week and it will be years before i can even consider getting away for a few days, looks like in order to enjoy life in ireland you need to be on the dole or do one of the yellow brand fetac courses.

    this country is a joke.

nevaeh-2die-4 banned for 2 weeks - this is not a forum for those being critical of those in receipt of State Benefits. Please read charter before posting again.

I am not 100% sure on what payment you get on a FETAC course butL http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/claiming_a_social_welfare_payment/going_abroad_and_social_welfare_payments.html

There's a bit there about being on the Jobseekers Allowance (I assume you're on that if you're doing the course) and you can go for two weeks and collect it when you return, you just need ot let the local office know.

You should be able to do it. Just make sure you have the dates right.

I am currently getting Jobseekers benefit and took holidays earlier this year. You are entilted to take up to two weeks in total. I went into the welfare office a week before I was due to go away and gave them the dates I would be away and they gave me a holiday form to fill in.
It's important to inform them, that way they will suspend your dole and when you get back from your holidays they will reactivate it and you will receive the payments you received as a lump sum with your next payment due. You need to go into them in person on returning from your holidays to reactive your dole.
If you don't inform them, you can still claim back the payments you missed but it is a much slower process and can take over a month.
Don't mind the begrudgers who come on this forum and think that just because you are currently unemployed and claiming state benefit that you have no entitlement to still enjoy your life, and somehow feel you are putting them out by doing so! In the current climate, there are so many people currently on the dole who have worked for years, or like yourself are betttering themselves doing courses so why certain ignorant people are exasperated at the thought of you wanting to take a holiday is beyond me:rolleyes:

In fairness, some people would call going to another county for the weekend a holiday. A holiday doesn't need to be 3 grand or more spending spree in some far off country.

Thanks very much, buddy. I know the ins and outs of taking the holiday, I had just forgotten the amount of time I was entitled to.

Dont worry yourself, I have come across plenty of fools who think its ok to spout their nonsence just because they are employed and Im not. I take it in my stride, as everyone on the dole should. I pity people who tar all dole recipients with the same brush, almost as much as I pity dole recipients themselves(myself too :P)

Thats the part I find funny. Flights included, I wont be spending anymore than €200! The joys of Eastern Europe :)

There is nowhere that the OP said they were spending three grand in a far off country. But if they really wanted to is that a problem? What about all the people currently on the dole who have been let go, are genuinely looking for work, but luckily also have some savings. Can they not take some time out from the stress of job searching and just get a break abroad?

I can do you one better! I think a boat over (single journey) to England is only 18 euro. Total that in with a B&B and you have 5 days for about 120 euro :P

Now I'm confused:confused: What was your "3 grand or more spending spree in some far off country" comment in relation to then?? Sorry if I misunderstood you, I thought you were justifying why some people get annoyed at dole recipients taking holidays:D

Oh I was just saying that what might be considered a holiday to me is going to England for a few days but to someone else it might be going to New York for two weeks and spending around 3 grand at least; just because someone on the dole is going on a holiday doesn't mean they're spending a bomb on it. A cheap holiday is still a holiday.

Agreed! But sure the way this country still is I think I actually saved money by going on two weeks holidays to cheap countries where the daily rate of living was a quarter the price of here!!:p
