I dont think there has been a whole lot of talk about these?
Do people think they are girlie?
The diesel seems reasonably well priced.
I think they are stunning if a little on the girlie side. Might date quickly too.
    Whats the opinion here?

The white with the big wheels looks outstanding. There's been plenty of comparisons with the mark 1 TT, stylewise and that's still an attractive car.

I think a good looking car will always be a good looking car. Some features, such as the metallic roof bars on some models may age quickly.

I'd certainly drive one if I could afford one and it suited my needs. Colours, wheels and spec will be hugely important.

I had a spin in one last year just after it was launched. Nice drive - it was the 160HDi. Nice and tidy inside and very tight. Good quality materials and finishes. It reminded me of an Audi TT in many ways other than it's looks.

At €37k I can't too many selling in this country's current economic conditions.

One of the best looking new cars around at the moment. I think they look great.

Must admit I actually think it's a fine looking car. Wish they had some proper engines.

I actually really like it and I am not a Peugheot person at all. I've being in a one and it's actually okay in the interior and it has a pretty big boot for it's size. The rear is cramped tough but you'll always going to get that with a coupe!

After seeing and hearing of these I excitedly ran to the website to check the engine options... said excitement quickly dwindled when I saw the utter rubbish options on engine and drivetrain.

To compare it to an Audi TT in anything other than looks is laughable (and the TT is no sports coupe posterchild). The Peugeot RCZ wiki introduces it as a "sports car by Peugeot".. its a Sports car in the same vein as a Hyundai Coupe. The ultimate in show over go sadly.

I think they look superb - I have only seen one and that was in the driveway of a lad I suspect works in a dealership.

wtf is it with sports cars and people thinking they are girly.
if you buy a fookin pink one and wear it with bobbins in your hair then it will look girly.
drives me daft that does -
    MX5 - girly
    ford puma - girly
    all convertibles - girly
    mini cooper S - girly

I was asked did I think a Cayenne was girly the last day

if you are worried about looking girly - hang your knackers out the window when you are driving along. :D

With a proper sportscar, I dont anyone would call them girlie but with stuff like this, where it looks great but without a large engine option to give it sportscar appeal, I think it is quite valid to ask if its looks like it might be more suited to someone of the female variety.

I don't know whether you're saying a Cooper S is girly or not?!!!!! I'm thinking of buying one at the moment...

There's one parked on the Model Farm Road every day at the Lee Garage. I like the look of it, but fook me, there's no way I'd drop almost 40k on a Peugeot, let alone a Peugeot with no oomph.

a car doesn't need to have a big engine to be a sports car - a la MX5
and seriously, a car is good or not good, thats what should count no ?

no no no - Cooper S aint girly - but you will get a bit of stick for having one I am afraid, it will be 100% from tools who know nothing of how good they are ( or cars in general ) or lads who think their car is somehow a representation of their c*ck.

Great looking car. I dont think the engine options are all that bad either
160 bhp diesel and 200 bhp petrol.

The white one is great lookin but if it costs 40k id rather look at it than buy it.Maybe a used 350z?

A bit harsh? The 1.6 turbo petrol is a little cracker of an engine. It's the same BMW engine as used in the MINI Cooper S - also a FWD car as were many Audi TTs Mk I which themselves were basically just a Golf Mk IV (worst Golf ever) :p

But the MINI costs €25k and the RCZ costs €42k, which I agree is ridiculously expensive for what it is

    Love the looks though :)

    a sexy car...yum

    as for "girliness" - can't really comment there. I am a girl:cool:

I saw a few of them driving around Aberdeen last week, no camera (if I did I'd also have photos of an Atom, Lambo, Bristol and many more), girlie car or not I'd have one.

    They look SWEEET

Looks like my mothers 207 from the front. I wonder would it look too similar from my rear view mirror if it came up behind me. Nice looking car though.

Ah but MK 1 TT is not the worst golf at all! I should know ive driven loads of golfs. Its the best actually. The convertible sorts the problems of claustrophobic interior of the coupe by getting rid of the back seats and raising the roofline. The quattro system and 6 speed short shift gearbox along with the 225bhp remappable to 300+ with stage 2 remaps if your into it and lovely handling means its still a technological tour de force. Id rather it than the peug. The problem with the peug looks wise is it has the rubbish front end of peugeots fleet cars. The drivetrain is also poor and nothing innovative
My TT yesterday in Wicklow ...

The TT Mk I is the best Golf Mk IV, but it is still a Golf Mk IV :pac:

An acquired taste, fortunately the car is sound which is the main thing at that age:)

Did you really just describe the TT as lovely handling :o

Agree with that James, bodykit is muck it justnt sit right on the car. Youve also cheaped out on the replica wheels and lowering your car, the amount of uncorrected negative camber on the back will be killing your handling. as well as damaging your drivetrain and suspension parts not to mention chewing tyres.

Get a proper alignment done with some cmaber adjusters!

When I looked at the Irish site last month I didnt see the 1.6 Turbo 200bhp.
That is fine BHP wise, but without an AWD option still weak sauce.

All FWD TT's were the entry level versions, the "hot" ones were all AWD.

I have to be honest - I don't think the original TT had "lovely handling". In fact I would say Peugeot beat Audi hands down in the "lovely handling" stakes if you look back across their history. I realise they haven't got it right in a while but I still suspect a mediocre Pug is a match for a good Audi handling wise. I'd take a 106 GTI over a Mk1 TT any day.

The R8 is set up for oversteer apparantly. The original TT was also but had no ESP, and some deaths resulted in the car being recalled and set up with understeer with a bushing of some sort that some modders overcame, and ESP. More info on the TT forum in the UK. I dont actually think oversteer is a good idea on a road car personally, and neither does anyone sane, for the track fine. My car handles directly and responsively Ive no idea if thats the norm or not.

I intend on shortly when time permits, there is undoubtadly negative camber on it for some reason, I think it is normally -1.5 degrees though.

If I rembember correctly they added the tiny little rear wing to give a little more downforce.

Yes , but I dont think it does alot, I think it was more for PR than anything. The main change was ESP and understeer.

Well all modern cars are setup for understeer so no surpises their. I drove a Mk1TT last year, took a customer out around the track. It was only the lower powered model but I thought it was a nice little car, almost bought one myself. Its was very easy to drive and you would be doing very well to get yourself into trouble.

Indeed, more talk of oversteer here http://sportscarforums.com/f13/oversteer-ff-6627.html
with the peugeot 106 gti being mentioned in that thread
To be honest i dont think my TT would be 'fun' 'fun' on a track. Id rather something that does with power like an S2000, but as a road car its very fast and handles lovely in the sense its responsive and one knows what the wheels are doing not like some modern cars with electric power steering. I dont want or need oversteer on a public road and anyone who does has a screw loose including the folks on Top Gear and other shows like it .

I'm not seeing it myself, I think it looks awkward.

Sat in it at the Kilkenny motorshow in November, and was distinctly underwhelmed.

Oversteer is not a bad thing once you know that's the way the car handles, ask anyone from the 80's who cut their teeth in RS2000's, Mk1 escorts, Mantas and almost all BMW's. It doesn't make them bad handling cars - in my opinion a car which makes you feel like you can round a corner at any speed and then lets go without any warning or has steering too slow to let you catch it is a poor handling car, but there is much more to it than that.

btw - going back to the 106 gti vs Mk1 TT. it is no contest with regards handling imo, the Audi has power and AWD advantage but the 106 has a much better chassis.

MX5's have a propensity to oversteer ( albeit power vs liftoff in the other two), would anyone say they don't handle well ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Had a drive in a RCZ the other day. It was the diesel and IMO it was terrible engine wise. I was expecting something with alot of torque but didnt get it. Wouldnt buy it with that engine anyway. Didnt spend too much time in it after that.
