very sadly learned of the death of Austin Carruth.

He will be greatly missed by the entire boxing community.

May he rest in peace and thoughts for his family at this time..

In case any of you are unsure who Austin is, Olympic Gold medalist Michael Carruths father.

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

and what a gentleman he was too..

I grew up with 2 of his grandsons, both in primary and secondary school and met Austin and Michael on a few occasions

A gentleman who always had time for me in a crowded club. Used to say he wouldn't let me near a ring until " ya get rid of that fat arse" ! Legend of a man .
    Sleep well Austin.

A sad day for Irish boxing indeed,

I only met him a few times myself, but always seemed a nice chap

It's also a massive loss for Driminagh boxing club, as they have lost 2 great men in the last year, as Jimmy Murray died a year ago as well

    RIP

I never knew the man personally but one of my best friends was a neighbour of the Carruths in Greenhills and he always spoke highly of Mr.Carruth (as he used called him).

Everything I read and heard about the man was always positive.

    So sad news indeed.

    R.I.P.

Sad news. I met him shortly after the 1992 Olympics and thought he was a gentleman.

    RIP

I sparred in drimnagh many times and Austin would always be glad to talk and help you out even when you weren't from his own club. He was a true gent and will be sadly missed by the boxing family. R.I.P. Ireland lost a great son

I worked with him many years ago, in what was my first full time job. A character, with a great sense of humour, a story for every occassion, and the patience of a saint to put up with a young eejit, as I was. RIP.
