    Hi there
Am not very techie but was wondering what's the most straightforward way to get the latest version of Android onto my Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000)? Any big drawbacls to 2.2. Thought it might make my phone more compatible to newer apps. Also when I hook up my phone to my laptop with the USB cable I got in the box, there doesn't seem to be any software to manage apps (similar to what Apple does with itunes). Do I need to download a kind of itunes for Android?
thx a mill for any tips!

    You need to download Kies

Install Kies and you can update the firmware from that. its pretty straight forward but i wouldnt expect to see much in the diference between 2.1 and 2.2, Theres still a lot of laggyness on 2.2.

See this thread on how you can install Darky's custom ROM instead of the bog standard 2.2 update.

As someone who like yourself wouldn't be too much of a techy, I was afraid all this ROM stuff but i breezed through it with no problems. Couldnt have been easier. :)

I just popped on 2.2.1 ( last updated 15th Feb) and I'm getting no lag now at all. But like everything time will tell if it lasts.

Yeah it was ok for me in the beginning too but defo drops off, dunno why but there was a big difference. darkys has totally transformed the phone and made it really smooth.

The update question appears to be answered for you.

Regarding the app management from your PC. If you go to Android Market you can view the apps in the store from the website. If you login using the same google ID as your phone, you can install apps remotely, you don't need to connect your phone to the PC for this!
