    I am a PT farmer.

Problem is my car is always dirty. I was wondering if I purchased a second car for farming purposes could I use the same car insurance, ie policy could state use of first car from 7 am to 6 PM and second car would be used in the evening only and at the weekends.

    Anyone any experience of this

You'll have to take a new policy out for a second car. Your ncb will also start at 0 for a second policy.

Talk to your insurer, i am in a similar position i have a jeep and a van and both insured in my name, if you go a small commercial the insurance will be small and no NCT, just MOT not as strict. The cost in my case was small.

Are you talking about a van or a small 4x4, any clue as to how much the second premium was

What was the advantage as he could only have one of them on the road at any one time?

i have this done, have a first policy with full 5years NCD, started a second policy and managed to find an insurer (through a broker) that mirrored the 5years NCD on a new policy, so i got a qoute for the new policy as if i had 5years NCD and all i needed was a letter from the first insurance company saying that i had 5years NCD and that the policy was still active and had no claims.

It was nice to find an insurance company that has a bit of sense at last!

One for farming and one for mass. This was back in the 80's, you couldn't get away with it today.

I heard of 1 of the biggest developers in dublin doing this during the good times 2 identical range rovers and 2 identical s500 mercs. the benefit was 1 was legit, 1 was from uk with no vrt paid. You just paid 1 road tax and 1 insurance. You get a replacement tax and insurance disc and stick it in the 2nd car. Unless both were stopped coming out of the driveway it would be difficult to catch them
