The agony and the ex-TD: updated list of deputies not re-elected

Other threads are keeping tabs on percentages, seats retained, new seats won, party gains and losses etc.

I think it might be interesting also to compile an updated list of current TDs who lose their seats, if only for the sake of good old-fashioned schadenfreude. I'm inclined to forget who was there previously once a seat is lost.

Here's the current situation. All confirmed at the time of posting (and all Government TDs as you might expect).

    Greens
    Paul Gogarty, Dublin Mid-West
    Ciarán Cuffe, Dun Laoghaire
    Trevor Sargent, Dublin North

    Fianna Fail
    John Curran, Dublin Mid-West
    Michael Fitzpatrick, Kildare North
    Michael Kennedy, Dublin North
    Conor Lenihan, Dublin South West
    Martin Mansergh, Tipperary South
    Charlie O'Connor, Dublin South West
    Barry Andrews, Dun Laoghaire
    Aine Brady, Kildare North

    Nice title, but misleading.

You should add in the obscene parachute payments and platinum pensions they're going to get for screwing the country over.

I'd like to see them get a cold dose of reality by only getting statutory redundancy pay and having to wait up to a year for it, the same as anyone else who gets made redundant.

    In two words f*** 'em.

Not my original witticism, unfortunately, but thanks for the thanks all the same.

It was Ben Briscoe (FF) who said that way back in 1992 when he narrowly won a marathon recount of votes.

Deirdre Clune's non-election isn't down to any new running mate (Buttimer ran last time out as well but Clune got in ahead of him), but rather the simple fact that she had little or nothing to contribute to political life.

Her campaign essentially amounted to "Vote for me because I'm a woman", and she seemed to spend the entire campaign meeting local Cork city women's groups for afternoon tea and biccies.

She may have something to contribute in another profession but she was only in politics to begin with because of her father Peter Barry.

I think Buttimer was elected primarily because of Clune's flaws; if there had been an overall higher quality of FG candidate in Cork South Central then they could easily have staved off Michael McGrath and prevented FF from holding onto that second seat.
