    Obviously it is a processed product, but how processed?
    Does anyone know how it is made?
    Is it as healthy as a real rice wholegrain?

    real rice wholegrain is as healthy as white rice.

    So don't worry about it, just eat it.

    Brown rice has extra fibre, and is more preferable than white rice

    You could also try something different, and even better again, quinoa

    What does 'more preferable' mean, for all intents and purposes?

    I posted this in the Myths thread, brown rice is not really better than white all the time (most of the time it just doesn't matter):

    Results show that despite higher nutrients contents of brown rice compared to white rice, experimental data does not provide evidence that the brown rice diet is better than the diet based on white rice. Possible antinutritional factors present in brown rice have adverse effects on bioavailability of this cereal nutrients.

    The nitrogen balance was negative on both diets, but more negative on the brown rice diet. The phosphorus balance on the brown rice diet was significantly negative, but other minerals were not affected by the diet. The levels of cholesterol and minerals in the plasma were not significantly different on the polished rice diet and the brown rice diet. Comparing these results with data on standard protein intake (Miyoshi, H. et al (1986) J. Nutr. Sci. Vitaminol., 32, 581-589.), we concluded that brown rice reduced protein digestibility and nitrogen balance.

    Im not going to get into this debate Rocky, only that the second report you quote was based on a study of 5 people as far as I know and the first one is pretty experimental research [as you say yourself] - where these things are normally done on hundreds of not thousands of people over a very long time [and hence its hard to find 'definitive' proof of one thing or another in this area],

    From reading a huge amount on these topics while loosing weight myself, its clear that we could make any argument we wanted based on any food being good or bad for you - as there is a massive amount of partial or contradictory evidence out there [the book 'diet delusion' is a great book to show this, as if you read that and nothing else, you would wonder what the rest of the world has been smoking for the last 30+ years! But its clearly one side of many stories]

    But there are many other threads having this discussion - lets not hijack this thread with it.

    From reading a huge amount on these topics while loosing weight myself, its clear that we could make any argument we wanted based on any food being good or bad for you - as there is a massive amount of partial or contradictory evidence out there [the book 'diet delusion' is a great book to show this, as if you read that and nothing else, you would wonder what the rest of the world has been smoking for the last 30+ years! But its clearly one side of many stories]

    That's my point - no single food is good or bad for you, unless you only eat that single food in huge quantities. Sure, 100 Mars bars a day can be bad for you, but 1 Mars bar a day is not ;)

    Same as a gallon of olive oil is bad for you ( I think - never tried it :) )

    Ahh - I get you..

    A study with 5 whole people [and another which shouts about how experimental it is] throws some doubt on a food [or foods], so that food is therefore officially rubbish.

    Fine, if you want to follow that, we live in a free world :)
