No overall majority for FG, but they'll still get about 70 seats.

Absolute disaster for FF, a defining moment in Irish electoral history - Hanafin, Lenihan, Peter Power, Coughlan could all lose out today. Unbelievable.

This is unbelievable - Hanafin and Andrews likely to lose to their seats.

Labour going to have a good day too, but Independents will have a great day!

    GP doing better than expected?

SF will get about 12 seats.

No certainty of a FF seat in Dublin. My prediction of Barrett, Gilmore, Bacik and Boyd-Barrett in Dún Laoghaire appears to be coming true. Should put a few shekels on it, darn!!

The ole twitter is down at the moment.....needing my fix of instant news about the election. Listen (and watching Morning Ireland) on the Net at the moment. Some good chat going on. Really interesting

I am ecstatic about the Dublin return (if you could call it that) for FF

    8% !

My bet is DubSC lowest FF vote in the country - less than 4%

REAL possibility of zero FF in Dublin. Happy days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,089 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

Likely Dublin FF losers: Pat Carey, Brian Lenihan, Conor Lenihan, Mary Hanafin, Barry Andrews, Sean Haughey, Cyprian Brady, Chris Andrews.

Labour going to have a good day too, but Independents will have a great day!

The likelihood of Inds getting into the Dáil is dependent on the concentration of the votes in particular Constituencies. Could see some High-Profile Independents getting in with huge surplus (distorting the figures slightly).

Tell you what, if figures accurate it'll be the saviour of FG and FF.
Looking like FG/Lab so shared hatred for them at the next election and no Labour leading the opposition, which would have been almost certain doom for FF.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭Rubik.

    Which roughly translates into

    FG - 72, Lab - 38, FF - 20, SF - 11.

If this turns out to be true then I am very proud of my city especially if it means that there are no FF TD's in the Capital after this.

And if this means that wasters like Coughlin are turfed out as well then this is going to be a great weekends entertainment for me :)

I would be delighted to see Coughlan lose her seat, Is it looking like FG are going to need a coalition with labour? I had thought they would get a majority.

Rather that people who proved they can't count like Brian "The cheapest Bank bailout ever" Lenihan ;)

It is only a poll but was very accurate in 2007.

FG are transfer friendly and are quite a bit ahead of Labour in that poll so due a seat 'bonus' or bounce under PRSTV.

It really will be all down to the transfers - the Indos have a high percentage but there'll be a few on very high votes the rest strewn abround so may not translate into a huge amount of seats.

This is going to be a very exciting count.

very disappointing can't believe 8% of people havn't learnt any thing in the last 14years. Also can't believe the lefties did so well in dun laoighre.

You could very well be right. But I've a sneaky suspicioun that SF will be transfer freindly from the ULA & Independents. If they are they could end up with 14.

Regarding the greens, I still think they'll only take 2 seats. Sargent & Gormley. Ryan has a chance but I don't think he'll get it.

    Yes.
Similar to a vote for John McGuinness in Kilkenny - that really, truly won't count for anything

Cannot wait to see Hannafin and Coughlan if they lose their seats, Best decision the Irish electorate ever made.

This is all being discussed on RTE radio right now. Kileen is sounding very sore.

    And Lenihan could?

Yes, people are paid their wages and social welfare, the atm machines still work.

RBB and ULA was the low IQ vote. Probably with the strongest showing in Dublin.

There is a slight possibility the poll could be wrong, a percent or two here and there could make all the difference...very interesting stuff on Morning Ireland.

FG and Labour have too many seats, a very weak opposition, not good for FG or Labour once the honeymoon is over and the they start dishing out their pain.

This 15% figure is rippling through the country!

The Dublin figure does indicate that FF did better than expected in the other regions of the country.

Tis a magnificant day for the Irish voters. My only worry is that with FG in power they'll sell off everthing they can and leave us with nothing to build the country back up.

Hopefully with Labour in there with them then it'll stem the tide of our National assests.

The Dublin figure does indicate that FF did better than expected in the other regions of the country.

Also the 8% Dublin figure is an average. Lenihan & Hanaffin will probably hold seats. Whether anyone else in FF will is another question.

If FF are 8% in Dublin, then their vote is higher than 15.1% outside of Dublin.

The Twitter Machine is broken :(

Ireland's great 'Twitter election' could be scuppers. Was looking forward to seeing the tallies coming in this morning.

19% INDs in Dublin by the way! Crazy days for Irish politics. FF in FIFTH in Dublin!

Lenihan maybe, it's less certain with Hanafin because the FF is split between her and Andrews. In fact it's almost certain that she won't get elected.

You must want to reward complete failure.

You mean complete failure like being top 5 in the world for human development - influenced by government policy, number 2 in the world for foreign direct investment, a strong exports sectors.

You must only look at things through blinkers as these should be areas of failure if it was complete failure.

I've been up since about 7.30 and trying to get onto the Twitter, but no look. Am having to travel between Dublin and Westmeath today so hopefully it's fixed by 11am. Will have the radio though so not really too bad.
God, us Irish latch onto this technology lark. You'd think the Twitter nerds in the States would've realised to give a bit more power to the Irish Servers during this Election period.
