Ebay backs the fraudster

Unbelievable. I placed an order in good faith at the price advertised by the seller. I waited patiently for the goods,

After 20 days I started a complaint procedure with ebay. I accepted the sellers assurances that all was well and kept waiting.

50 days after I placed my order I receive nothing but a worthless coin in the mail and ebay decide to find in his favour. So much for 'shop with confidence'.

I don't think you're giving us the full story here, which are you more annoyed about? the length of time it took to arrive or the quality of the item that you received?
If it's the latter, the old "Caveat Emptor" adage applies.
If there is any possibility of the item being a forgery/copy then run away.
I've also found buying from Far East on ebay is fraught with the possibility of disappointment.
I have had a similar experience buying on Amazon.co.uk so the problems are not confined to ebay I'm afraid.

You should have reported the item as "not recieved" before the 45 days deadline.

Ebay or Paypal will not investigate any claim if you dont file it within 45 days of the payment

I think you will find that he mentioned he opened the claim after 20 days.

If you paid with Paypal, then you open the claim with Paypal, not eBay. If the item was not received, and the seller couldn't provide proof that it was, then Paypal would have refunded you. You have not posted enough info about what happened or what was done, so it's hard to see why the refund was denied. I suspect there's more to this than just eBay ignoring you.

I've always found ebay/paypal to be very good with disputes - I've had a couple of things disappear - and was always refunded. Just watch the deadlines, and don't forget to use the feedback.

I've been stung before with sellers and Paypal. I got one nice reply from Paypal finding in my favour in one case but them saying the seller didn't have enough funds in their account to give me a full refund. They gave me what the seller had and I was down a couple of hundred Euro.

So I use Paypal to withdraw from my credit card. So if Paypal won't help and you've documented your case properly (a bit more than you've shown here) you can go to the bank. They may help.

In the case above Id bought with my CC through Paypal so I gave all the emails and screenshots to my bank in an email and they refunded the rest to me.

So if you've paid with a credit card through Paypal see if your bank will investigate for you. It's not quick (takes them about a month I think) and you'll need to provide ALL information but it's worth it if you've been stung for a large amount.

OP didnt say "claim" - he said "began the complaint procedure with ebay"

The first step in the procedure is to contact the seller.

    I'm guessing you're not a seller. :D
