The Constitution says that the Taoiseach must be a member of the Dáil. So in the few days between everyone being elected to the Dáil and 9 March when it sits and elects (presumably) Enda Kenny as Taoiseach, who will be the head of the government in the interim? With Brian Cowen not running for election, presumably he can't have this position as soon as the returing officer in Laois-Offaly announces the results??

To be honest, there isnt much for any Taoiseach to do around here until someone gets elected is there??
What has Brian Cowen done after the election was called?
I think the new Dáil takes charge on the 11th of March.. surely we can do without a Taoiseach for 2 weeks

Brian Cowen is Taoiseach till the new one is elected. He was a TD when appointed.

Something that just crossed my cynical mind, there are a fair few ff minister including the taoiseach who are not running for election and thus could have been left unmonitored in government buildings for the last few weeks.

So what are the bets that all the drinks cabinets are empty, the Dáil bar is dry and one of them has even raided the toilets for loo roll ?

I am not allowed discuss …

In Cowens case he probably drank it dry the day the election was called.

Oh yeah I forgot we have had a slimmed down cabinet, they offically resigned meaning they get upto a couple of hundred thousand of a sverance package.

Hey has anyone noticed how the country has managed just as well with only 5 of them as when we had all of them ?

There are actually 7 Cabinet Ministers at present with two of them having responsibility for three Departments.Surprised they are not getting triple salary or are they?

And do they get the use of two cars ?

BTW have they had the use of state cars in order to help them campaign ?
When will they hand the drivers back ?

One nice story is Enda is going to axe state cars for ministers and ex Taoisigh.

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/its-the-bus-for-bertie-as-fg-vows-to-axe-all-ministerial-cars-2380492.html
I thought this is particularly apt as a form of payback to bertie and biffo.
Also Enda gets to give the two fingers to Garrett who has not exactly being helpful to FG with such outbursts as claiming it would be better if Labour were in coalition with them.

Now he can catch the bus or pay for his own car.

Even better ahern may have to resit his driving test if his license has lapsed more than 10 years as he has had his state car under his ar** for the best part of 20 years.

Oh man to be the examiner doing his test. :D
