i cannot see what is so cheeky about it when every politician in south central has been spending their money the exact same way regardless of party.

and even though he is in Fianna Fail he is only a new candidate having first run in the last election. So he had no say in anything Fianna Fail f****d up.

I don't know if I'd quantify someone who's been a sitting TD for 4 years as "new".

I can think of one or two slight mistakes FF have made in the last four years.

Massive failure to deliver locally too. He deserves his comeuppance with the rest of them.

seriously? i have met literally 100's of people who are voting for him because of the work he has done locally in the past four years, (and i wasn't canvassing for him, these were people who refused to put our party 1st because they were voting for McGrath) he has done in my opinion more in his short term then i've seen some local TD's do in the past 20 years and it seems to me from what i saw a lot of people in the constituency agree....

I have met 1,000S of People who will NOT be voting for Mcgrath today:

Ok, here is his Legacy :

    Michael McGrath:
    • Passage West town council: 1999 - 2007
    • Cork County Council for Carrigaline area: 2004 - 2007
    • TD for CSC: 2007 - 2011 (Previous post went to his brother, who's also his secretary now)
Then there was the promise of a light rail system for Carrigaline...which he subsequently shelved as "impossible"...after the election of course.

He was also pushing the N28 Ringaskiddy-Cork Dual Carriageway through the final phases of approval but has since run for the hills on that one too. There have been several tragic fatalities along that relatively short stretch of extremely congested road since 2007 (At least 3 in the last year alone) and doubtless we haven't seen the last one.

To say nothing of his questionable involvement in the rezoning of ~€100m of lands owned by Castlelands construction in Bishopstown.

Broken promises, cronyism, spin and a big smile. The worst kind of politician imo.

Voted alongside the Rest of Fianna Fail.....

We will get exactly what we deserve if we put that guy back in.

to be fair a light rail system for carrigaline is 'impossible'!
it would seem anyway when they couldn't get one for cork city itself.

you are generalising him into a stereotype what the party of FF is known for, he is an individual, if you have had issue with him that is fair enough but don't tar him with the same brush because of his party, take him for his factual actions.

lets face it he without questioning resigned his post in UCC to concentrate on his constituency work, not many a politician of the past would have done that.

    http://www.michaelmcgrath.ie/my-background/

and to be fair he's a qualified accountant, who better to help manage the country's accounts?

Went to him with an issue I was having at the time. He was reassuring me that he would do his best to help me. After meeting him, I didn't hear from him again. In fact everytime I rang him, his secretary told me that he was uncontactable. In the end, went to Simon Coveney to ask. Not only did he help me, but followed up with a series of phone calls to ensure I was happy.

Isn't this what has us in the s**t we're in? Personal issues being dealt with by NATIONAL politicians.

    Until this changes, nothing changes.

    .
btw, here's the ad from the Echo, pretty pathetic I think, begging bowl approach.

It's no different to Labour having several ads plastered all over Independent.ie today. As I have the front page open they have no less than 3 flash ads running the same advertisement for themselves.

If he feels so bad about what Fianna Fail have done to Fcuk up the Country why doesen't he chage to another political party or be Independent?

He knows that his Ass is Toast.

Micheal does Try Hard. I really like the Ballsy Poster he has up on the South Link Road.

It wasn't so much a personal issue, more of a local one. And am I wrong in thinking that is what they are supposed to be doing? Working for their local constituents?

He's better than the FG politicians in that constituency. Two are legacy politicians and the third one is on board the gravy train claiming over €50000 in expenses from the Seanad (the second highest).

looks like a pretty typical campaign ad to me... and the cost? it's not relevant. if we're counting pennies why not scrap the whole election system itself?

    Afraid that yes you are.
Contact your councillor, for local issues. That is why their elections are classed "Local Elections". They are your lobby to the city/county manager.

Personally I think that this behaviour will not be changed untill there is more power given to local government, from the city managers

It wasn't an issue that needed to be dealt with by a councillor. It was more of a political issue, I would love to tell you what it was, as I'm sure you would not begrudge me approaching him, however, I can't.

    Councillors are politicians.
I think that you may have misrepresented yourself here by calling it a "Local issue"
It may have affected you locally but, overall, be a national issue (or at least national in scope)

Yet he is an accountant apparently and was part of the party that financially ruined the country.....so his accounting knowledge was clearly not put to any use in his last term. Fianna fail have ruined the country - you can try to tar asmany fine Gael politicians as you like but thecountry was far better off when they were in power. It's obvious that you have decided to vote for fianna fail inspite of everything they have done to the country and it's people. But well done cos they'll remember that you stayed faithful to the party and reward you when they're next in power with a job you don't deserve and haven't earned or possibly some ridiculous planning permission. Because that's what they represent - corruption in it's purest form
