I have applied and had interview for a job abroad which initially is on 4 weeks trial. I have currently been out of work for nearly 2 years.
If i take it and hopefully get the job permanately then no problem, but if after the 4 weeks i'm not kept on will i have to wait 10 weeks or so to get my social welfare payments reinstated.

You could go to your local office and explain the situation. Ask them to suspend your claim as you have temporary work - you will need to inform them it is abroad, I am unsure if this will affect it in anyway though.
If you are kept on you can close your claim online on www.welfare.ie. If not you can go back to your hatch with a letter stating the dates worked and date finished and they can lift the suspension on your claim.
